My first instrument is the piano, and I have a strong classical background, though I do not have a degree in music. As I got older, I took up playing the bamboo flute - as the piano is not very portable, and I wanted to be able to play while waiting for my bus. Later, I took up the panpipes, which I found better than the flute for playing while I walk, and during the cold winter (as they do not require the use of the fingers). Lately I have been attempting to teach myself to sing. My musical interested broadened as I got older to include Ragtime, 'Oldies', folk music (mainly on the panpipes), some pop music, and miscellaneous. I have written some 30 or 40 pieces of music for the piano in a classical, semi-modern style. I am self-taught as a composer. (Hide extended text) ... (Read all)

(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened

I don't know if Beethoven would have approved, but he himself was a famous improvisationist, so hopefully he would forgive me.
(This MP3 was listened

As you may have noticed, the video for this MP3 is available again. I am happy to say that I heard back from the agency that was (erroneously) claiming my audio and had the matter cleared up. :-)
(Sadly, though, my joke in my other posting of Fur Elise about the ornaments and so on being proof it was me was NOT a joke - it's the truth. :-( This seems to be a problem I will run into again for as long as I am posting classical music. Sigh.... )
Ah yes, speaking of such things, my audio got claimed AGAIN a week later - by someone else. I felt like I have a child that is getting kidnapped over and over again! :-(
But I am happy to say after sending an e-mail to the company involved that the claim was dropped after only one day. :-)
(I sent them an e-mail to thank them & they sent back & said that they felt that most people in the music business would sympathize with the furstration of Classical musicians and recording matches.) (1 comment)

(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened
301 times and downloaded 33 times) My performance of this folk song on the piano. It's not the same arrangement as the sheet music, but, then, neither is the other MP3!
(This MP3 was listened
244 times and downloaded 123 times) My recording of Chopin's fourth prelude. Despite being a relatively 'easy' piece of music, it took a number of attempts to get a version I liked.
(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened
126 times and downloaded 172 times) Despite the title, I find this a cheerful piece of music, though there are moments of nostalgia, and maybe homesickness.
(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened
104 times and downloaded 151 times) My recording of my performance of this piece of Scott Joplin's composition. Scott Joplin wrote this music sometime after the death of his young wife, and the piece is full of tender emotion at times, passionate at others. (1 comment)
(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened

(This MP3 was listened
446 times and downloaded 737 times) Another of Scott Joplin's non ragtime pieces, a very brash and cheerful march and two-step. I don't use much swing in this one, though I do add a few extra syncopations at times.
(This MP3 was listened
392 times and downloaded 1699 times) One of Scott Joplin's more classical compositions; the main theme is a very cheerful one, with moments when it seems to sigh with contentment.
This is the same track as used in my YouTube video, but I have tried to fix some of the static which occurs in the YouTube video.
(This MP3 was listened
582 times and downloaded 888 times) A rather conservative performance at the start, becoming more rhythmically adventurous as the piece progresses.
