The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Rondo Alla Turca, is one of the most famous piano pieces of all time. Once only familiar to musical experts, later a universal piece for all piano pupils, its opening melody is now even omnipresent as an alienated sinus tone-like mobile phone ring tone. Fazil Say's arrangement, originally created as an effective encore, follows on from this popularity. After the first eight bars have been presented in original form, typical elements of jazz superimposed on the still recognisable classical foundations can be discovered, such as syncopation of the top notes and ornamentation through chromatic blue notes, embedded in the at times frenzied chains of semiquavers. In the spirit of the work's improvisatory character, Say likes to perfom his Alla Turca Jazz in different combinations, for example accompanied by jazz singers of with orchestra. It may appear strange that Fazil Say, who was born in Turkey and - when not on tour - is still resident in that country, does not bring back Mozart's interpretation of genuine Turkish music closer to its own roots, particularly as many of his compositions such as Black Earth or the Violin Sonata are characterised by a subtle amalgamation of the Classical-Romantic tradition, Turkish folk music and elements of jazz. In a further Mozart arrangement, the ballet music Patara premiered in Vienna in 2006, composed on the basis of the Rococo-like theme from the first movement of the same A-major Sonata (wich enjoys almost as great popularity as the Alla Turca theme), Say utilised the connection which was absent in Alla Turca, albeit in the opposite direction. In the ballet music, the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture, communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation. / Date parution : 2021-12-09/ Répertoire / 2 Pianos

THE AMADEUS WATCH: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?s own watch ? if he had one ? ticks away. The ticking carries us back in time with a piece that stylistically imitates the music of the 18th century in melody, harmony and rhythm. 2. COMPOSERS DINNER IN HEAVEN: At the music publisher De Haske, a composers? dinner was an integral part of trade fairs or meetings. The dinner was very popular among anyone who sat at it, not least of all because it offered one the opportunity to chat informally. ?Based on such a meeting, Otto M. Schwarz has a composed a work that describes an imaginary dinner of great classical masters on a cloud in the sky. Guess which composers are present by the references in the form of musical quotations and stylistic devices! 3. SCHERZO FOR SAXOPHONE QUARTET: The work, in 12/8 time, moves in a rapid furioso. Underscored by a continues eighth note rhythm, the work creates in the listener the sensation of a frantic rollercoaster ride. The theme moves throughout all the parts and, following a chromatically moving chord sequence, ends in a dramatic crescendo.

Her brother Wolfgang Amadeus soon acquired the book from his older sister. From an early age he displayed a particular talent for composing whereupon his father also wrote down his son’s first works in this music book. The “Nannerl Music Book” thus contains 17 pieces written by Mozart when he was between the ages of five and eight, all of which are easy to play – ideal pieces for beginners. Our edition is taken from the complete volume of Mozart’s Piano Pieces, HN 22, and contains a new preface by the editor Ullrich Scheideler especially written for beginners.

Serenade für 13 Instrumente-An announcement in the Wiener-Zeitung read: ?Concert. Today [23 March 1784] Herr [Anton] Stadler Sr. presently in the service of His Majesty the Emperor will hold a concert for his own benefit at the Royal Imperial National Court Theatre in which among other select pieces he will present a grand work for wind-band of a quite special character composed by Herr Mozart.? That this was almost certainly four movements from the present Serenade in B-flat major K.361 is suggested by an account of the occasion published some months later which states ?Today I heard a composition by Herr Mozart in 4 movements for wind ensemble . . . comprising 13 instruments: 4 horns 2oboes 2 bassoons 2 clarinetts 2 basset horns and a contrabass viol. . . .?Much music of the serenade-divertimento-cassation-Nachtmusik type was written in a light style and intended for social occasions rather than formal concerts. In such a context K.361 is striking for its seriousness of artistic content its length (seven movements lasting nearly an hour) and its extended instrumentation (most wind-band music of the period calls for five to eight or nine players not thirteen). In none of his works with the exception of the Requiem did Mozart again reach let alone surpass the lofty seriousness and the religious dedication of his Grand Mass in C Minor. The strict manner of the composition that prevails almost throughout the use of five and eight-part choruses the breadth of the solo movements as well as the treatment of the orchestra raise it infinitely above all his earlier works in this genre and place it beside the great Masses of Bach and Beethoven.The work was written for double chorus of mixed voices four solo voices and orchestra. Mozart never finished the Grand Mass and it has been completed by Alois Schmitt. This edition containsa piano reduction of the orchestral parts.

Scored for 2 Oboes 2 Horns and Strings. Probably written in 1764 in London during the Mozart family's tour of Europe.
