Violin and Piano Reduction. Composed by Oscar Rieding. Edited by Annette Oppermann. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. 14 pages. G. Henle #HN1048. Published by G. Henle
Instrumentation :
Violin and Piano
Publisher :
G. Henle
9x12 inches. Preface: Marusa Zupancic.
The name Oskar Rieding may seldom appear in concert programs, but for students of the violin it is all the more familiar. To this day, his short concert pieces for violin and piano, written at the start of the twentieth century especially for beginners on the instrument, have maintained their place in lessons and class recitals. Restricted to the first position, the B-minor Concerto, op. 35, is ideal for beginners. For this Urtext edition, based on the first printing, editor Annette Oppermann received talented support; the Slovenian Rieding specialist Marusa Zupancic contributes an interesting preface on the little-known composer.

Violin 1-Dvorák?s Violin Concerto was composed between 1879 and 1882 with the active assistance of Joseph Joachim and was issued by the publisher Fritz Simrock Berlin in 1883. Its premiere took place in October of that same year with Franti?ek Ondr cek as soloist. This new Urtext edition is based on the first edition (score solo Violin part Piano reduction and orchestral parts). It also takes Dvorák?s autograph which served as a master copy for the engraving into consideration. A fresh assessment of Dvorák?s manuscript made it possible to reconstruct several variants ignored in the first and subsequent editions and toclarify ambiguities in the notation and articulation. An important component of our Urtext edition is the original Piano reduction which probably stems from Dvorák himself and in which Joseph Joachim?s fingering is published. First Urtext edition of the original Piano reductionVariants in the solo part rendered as ossia passagesForeword on the work?s genesis (Ger/Cz/Eng) and detailed Critical Commentary (Eng) by the editor

(+)
Für Violine und Orchester Op. 64-Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto op. 64 is a key work of the 19th century adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the premi?re; the ‘child prodigy’ Joseph Joachim; and Hubert L?onard a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the soloviolin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to L?onard. The letter informs us that the composer invited L?onard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to L?onard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how L?onard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering they also show how L?onard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn’s approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter’s correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for L?onard’s playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor Clive Brown is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice.- New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs- Revised Urtext edition- With a separate booklet on performance practice (BA9060) (Eng/Ger)- Full score in the revised early and late (popular) versions (BA9099)

Arranged for Violin and Piano-The Belgian Charles Auguste de Bériot (1802-1870) was not only a violinist but also a teacher and composer.Bériot composed a number of concertos. His Concerto No.9 In A Minor published in 1859 is a favourite with more advanced students. Julia Fischer played it with verve at the early age of eight. The piece stands out with seemingly virtuosic short passages varied rhythms and a slight Hungarian touch. The EditorKurt Sassmannshaus is a world-famous Violin teacher with a professorship in Cincinnati (Ohio USA). But even this corpus though reduced by time reveals that Telemann like other composers of his day regarded the violin as the most important and most versatile of all solo instruments. Two of his operas - Der neumodische Liebhaber Damon (1719 TWV 21:8) and Die last-tragende Liebe oder Emma und Eginhard (1728 TWY 27:25) - open with introductory violin concertos; there are eight concertos for twoviolins; and the violin plays an important role in virtually all his concertos for two or more solo instruments.Urtext of the Telemann EditionPerformance material available for hire

Bach, Johann Sebastian Concerto for Violin, Strings and Basso Continuo G minor Reconstructed from BWV 1056 - Reconstructed from the Urtext of the ?New Bach Edition? - Meticulous analysis and evaluation of the sources - Interpretative leeway for keyboard players This violin concerto in G minor has not come down to us in the form presented here. It has been reconstructed from a lost violin concerto that survives solely in Bach?s arrangement for harpsichord, namely, as the Harpsichord Concerto in F minor (BWV 1056). The reconstruction is based on a meticulous evaluation of those autograph harpsichord concertos that also survive in an original version for violin. In particular, the autograph harpsichord parts contain changes that Bach made when preparing his arrangements, thereby revealing the manner in which he transcribed his solo violin works for the harpsichord. The keyboard realization is presented in a transparent way allowing players the possibility to embellish and fill in the harmonies at their discretion.

Music Minus One Violin-This album contains two of the Romantic Era's neglected treasures. Henryk Wieniawski though little known today was a potent figure in the 19th century an almost unparalleled virtuoso violinist and a respected composer. His D minor concerto op. 22 was premiered in St. Petersburg in 1862 and is a Romantic-era treasure. Pablo de Sarasate's 'Zigeunerweisen' ('Gypsy ways') is a wonderful fantasia on Romany themes composed in 1878. Both of these concerti are wonderful and often overlooked. But take our advice and discover them - they will not disappoint! Contains a printed score and a compact disc featuring both concerti in split-channel stereo with the violinist on the rightchannel then again in a stereo accompaniment version minus the solo violin part.
