Flor Peeters, born in Belgium in 1903, is one of the most important organists and organ composers of the 20th century. After completing his studies at the famous Lemmens Institute in Mechelen, he worked there as a teacher of organ and improvisation before becoming professor at and director of the Royal Flemish Conservatoire of Antwerp. Until his death in 1986, Peeters gave concerts all around the world, held numerous master classes and received several awards and prizes for his achievements as a composer, organist and teacher. In his successful three-volume educational work 'Ars Organi', Peeters combines theoretical knowledge and practical exercises on all aspects of organ playing, starting with basic information on the instrument, manual and pedal exercises and two-part manual and pedal playing. While Vol. 2 contains exercises on three-part playing, Vol. 3 contains exercises on four and five-part playing as well as studies on demanding trio playing. Jan Sweelinck (1562-1621) was among the most famous organists of seventeenth century Europe and an influential composer in the Dutch and North German tradition. Bridging both Renaissance and Baroque styles the Dutch composer is best remembered for the inventive sparkling music he wrote for organ and other keyboard instruments. This remarkable treasury includes nearly all of Sweelinck's brilliant keyboard works most of which have survived only in widely scattered seventeenth century manuscripts. In Sweelinck's day these were some of Europe's most popular pieces for organ and keyboard. Nowadays they retain every bit of their original intensity and vigour. Reproduced inthis authoritative complete-resource edition they will be welcomed by serious keyboard artists who will find them as praiseworthy today as they were when first known and played in Europe over three hundred years ago.

Francis Jackson's Festival Toccata arranged for Organ.Dr Francis Jackson CBE is a British organist and composer. He was born in Malton Yorkshire and received his early education as a Chorister at York Minster under his precursor the legendary Sir Edward Bairstow. Jackson succeeded Bairstow as Organist of York Minster in 1946 a post he held until his official retirement in 1982. His extensive output of sacred and secular music includes canticles anthems hymn tunes organ pieces two acclaimed monodramas an overture a concerto a symphony and solo songs. Jackson's creative output has continued since his retirement.

The first three notes of this piece are probably the most famous notes of all organ literature. The toccata (derived from the word toccare to touch) was a technical work in which difficulties of execution were always present Rather than considering that this work presents a fugue preceded by a toccata the title of this work is best interpreted as the brilliant composition of a fugue phrase itself weaving through the blazing triumphant chords. After theannouncement of the theme the rhythm of sixteenths continues almost without interruption to the final measures.
