The Bells of Christmas: Concert Band: Score

Christmas is the time of the year where everyone comes together and peace family and friendship bonds are strengthened. When selecting repertoire for your Christmas concert it’s difficult to find new arrangements that are both challenging and fun to work on as well as fun for the audience. Crazy For Christmas is one of those pieces by the Belgian composer Bert Appermont. He uses canons and even fugues throughout this arrangement and foresees a spectacular ending. It is based on Il est né le divin Enfant and Away in a Manger but refers wittily to JingleBells  Deck the Halls  The Twelve Days of Christmas and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. So ‘crazy’ all the way!

for Concert Band-Among Goldman's many contributions to the band's repertoire his pastiche marches such as Children's March and the Christmas March have been especially popular. Familiar seasonal tunes include Good King Wenceslas Adeste Fideles Jingle Bells It Came Upon the Midnight Clear The First Noël Deck the Halls and Hark! the Herald Angels Sing. An optional short coda reduces the playing time to approximately 4:00. A handsome full score and judicious rescoring of the upper woodwinds makes this an ideal alternative for community bands looking for new sounds in a classic yet familiar style for their December programs.

Feliz Navidad (Jose Feliciano) Brazilian Sleighbells (Percy Faith) and the always popular Silver Bells are cleverly combined in a calypso/Latin style that gives this medley a great new twist for a holiday concert. And of course it has plenty of percussion effects to feature.

Based on the quintet arrangements of the Canadian Brass from their CD/DVD “A Christmas Experiment” here is a real holiday treat for concert band. In a style reminiscent of P.D.Q. Bach and Spike Jones this masterfulsetting touches on an unlikely blend of musical styles and moods. This entertaining medley is sure to liven up any Winter concert!
