Summa (PART ARVO)

Par PART ARVO. Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt has adapted his celebrated work, Summa, for recorder quartet. Originally written for four solo a cappella voices, it is also available in arrangements for string quartet, string orchestra, and choir with organ. Summa bears the distinctive qualities of Pärt's music, masking its great collective complexity with simplicity in each part. This arrangement can be played by soprano/alto 1/alto 2/tenor instruments or tenor/bass 1/bass 2/great bass. Phrasing marks are consistent with those of the vocal arrangement. Summa is the most strict and enigmatic work in this series'', said Arvo Pärt in 1994. The neutral title itself embodies the essence of the content as the work is based on the text of the Latin Credo. The great simplicity of the piece masks its complexity. The underlying rules ensure that on the surface a cycle of continuous change is created while the deep structure possesses an order of stillness. Einfache Noten - höchster AnspruchArvo Pärts Musik schön zu spielen heißt die Perfektion des Klangs zu erreichen. Eine Musik an der vordergründige Virtuosität übermäßige Dynamik oder Effekt beladenes Ausdrucksspiel einfach abprallen die aber im Gegensatz dazu jedem einzelnen Ton den nötigen Raum zur vollkommenen klanglichen Entfaltung gibt. Für den Komponisten ist dies das erklärte Ziel für den Interpreten eine schwer zu erfüllende Aufgabe.Seine Komposition Summa realisierte Pärt selbst bereits in mehreren Besetzungen - ursprünglich für Chorgeschrieben dann arrangiert für verschiedene Streicherbesetzungen.
