Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo are among the most famous masterpieces of their kind. Unlike the closely related Suites for Violoncello Solo the Violin solos have survived in an autograph manuscript of the composer on the basis of which alone a largely reliable musical text is available. However this manuscript is a copy of previous draft copies or even further fair copies of the composer. Wiener Urtext Edition uses an early copyist's copy from Köthen as a secondary source which has not been valued very highly as a source until now. Despite its closeness to the extant autograph one cannot rule out thepossibility that this copy might be traced back to another original manuscript by Bach. At any rate some obvious mistakes of the extant fair copy can be clarified on the basis of its text; in addition it provides a number of articulations not indicated elsewhere (some even with alternatives) which are examples of how these works can be performed according to their time of origin. In the Notes of Interpretation Dagmar Glüxam explains the relationship between the musical-rhetorical contents of Bach's musical text and their adequate performance thus showing how absurd many a performance instruction of established interpretive editions is.

From his huge output these new editions present the six quartets for Flute Violin Viola da Gamba or Violoncello and Basso Continuo that he wrote in Paris in the 1730s.Published with the title Nouveaux Quatuors en Six Suites by Le Clerc in Paris in 1738 these six pieces are suites with various sequences of movements each introduced by aprelude.Here Telemann shows himself committed to the French style. The works are of special interest not only for their high quality but also because of the variable scoring of the third part for Viola da Gamba or Violoncello.Our edition consists of a full score with preface (German/English) and separate instrumental parts including a Keyboard with figured bass.

As with most of Schumann's duos for solo instrument and piano the 'Pieces in Folk Style' originally for violoncello and piano were also published for an alternative instrument. The publisher expected greater circulation and ahigher turnover with an additional edition for violin. Apart from a few changes necessitated by the instrument there was a series of substantial ones in nos. 1 and 5 which partly also concern the piano part. Thus we can beconfident that the version for violin was undertaken by Schumann. Now it is available in an Urtext edition for the very first time! Ernst Schliephake has provided practice-orientated fingerings and it is thus excellently suitedfor the teaching of pupils of medium ability upwards.

Op. 131c-The rediscovery of the original manuscripts of Max Reger's works for violin viola and cello op. 131a-d represents a minor sensation. These late works for solo strings dating from 1914 and 1915 the last of which was only published posthumously were only known from the first printed editions until now and a scholarly-critical edition based on all the sources has long been desirable. The new edition from the Max-Reger-Institut now fills this gap.

And nothing is better suited to this than well-loved and popular Christmas classics.The volumes in our series for instrumental teaching, developed in collaboration with the Landesakademie für die musizierende Jugend in Baden-Württemberg, all contain 20 easy carols arranged in progressive level of difficulty. Experienced instrumental teachers have made a selection of carols for each instrument according to specific criteria. These can be mastered as part of music school lessons after just a few weeks and months. All the carols have been chosen and transposed so that the range and fingering combinations do not exceed the level of difficulty for the first three years of learning.The piano accompaniment is of moderate difficulty. For many of the carols, an ad lib upper or lower part is included which can also be played by instrumental pupils. The volumes are therefore suitable for individual as well as group tuition.The arrangements are based on the piano and instrumental books from the CHRISTMAS CAROLS project (Carus 2.403/03 und 2.404/03) which is part of the LIEDERPROJEKT, the charitable project to further singing with children.
