Complete Piano Sonatas I-The Piano Sonatas are regarded as the central works of Alexander Scriabin’s compositional output. No other composer after Beethoven reshaped this genre so radically thereby reinvigorating the tradition of the sonata. Scriabin’s desire not simply to continue the existing tradition but to surpass it is evident as early as his first sonatas. These are exciting works from the pianist’s perspective and in their abundance of expression and wealth of imagination. Up to the third sonata Scriabin developed a distinctive feeling for structural coherence and cyclical unity which at the same time revealed poetic qualities.Thisvolume contains the earlier works; sonatas officially published during the composer’s lifetime as No. 1 op. 6 No. 2 (Sonate-Fantaisie) op. 19 and No. 3 op. 23 as well as the sonatas written during his youth in G-sharp minor (1886) and E-flat minor (1887-89). The edition also includes the virtually unknown fragment of a sonata in C-sharp minor (1887) and the reconstructed parts of a sonata in G-sharp minor (1892) never previously published. The editor Christoph Flamm draws on autograph manuscripts first printed editions and on Russian editions of the 1920s. For the first time the recordings of Sonatas nos. 2 and 3 which Scriabin made in 1908 on paper rolls for the Hupfeld company Leipzig are also taken into account.- Urtext edition reflecting the latest scholarship and taking previously unknown sources into account.- Includes all fragmentary works some published for the first time.- Detailed foreword Ger/Eng) and critical commentary (Eng).

Complete Piano Sonatas II-Piano works were at the centre of Alexander Scriabin's compositional output. As an outstanding pianist he began writing mainly miniatures for his instrument in the style of Romantic Piano pieces. But it was also Scriabin who unlike any other composer of his generation contributed to the continuation of the sonata tradition. Particular milestones in his output were Sonatas nos. 4 and 5 of 1903 and 1907 in which we hear forms and harmonies not heard previously. When these works are occasionally given the name 'Poème' Sonatas this indicates that they stem from the time and allude to the compositional context of Scriabin'sdaring Orchestral works 'Le Divin Poème' and 'Le Poème de l´exstase'. The editor Christoph Flamm is an expert in Russian music particularly Piano music. His research for example into Nikolai Medtner and the editions based on these findings are regarded as standard works. For his Bärenreiter edition of Scriabin's Sonata no. 5 Christoph Flamm has drawn on sources which were until recently regarded as lost or could only be consulted with great difficulty. Scriabin's Complete Piano Sonatas will be published in 4 volumes. - Urtext edition based on the latest source research. - With facsimiles which also give information about the rediscovered sources. - Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng) and critical commentary (Eng).

This collection of Sonatas For Piano contains Prokofiev?s Sonatas Nos. 6-9 i.e. Opp. 82 83 84 and 103. The three ?War Sonatas? (Opp. 83-4) were written between 1940 and 1944 while No. 9 was finished in 1947 just after the war. They were among the last works he completed before the infamous Zhdanov Doctrine was implemented which severely restricted his artistic freedom. Serge Prokofiev (1891-1953) was a Ukrainian-born Soviet composer pianist and conductor. He is best remembered for his 1936 children?s theatrical work Peter And The Wolf but he also wrote several operas symphonies ballets and concertos. He was a leading figure in the Neoclassical movement; his dissonant harmonies and virtuosic style frequently shocked audiences and helped establish him as one of the foremost composers of his generation.

Scriabin's 7th Piano Sonata is amongst the late sonatas nos. 6-10, conceived as preliminary studies for a Gesamtkunstwerk of enormous proportions, the 'Mysterium?. The mystic aura of the 7th Sonata is communicated to the player not least through the ecstatic performance directions contained in the autograph and the first edition. This and a great deal more can be seen in Scriabin's manuscript for the sonata, which we are presenting in a high-class facsimile in 2015, Scriabin Year. It is hard to believe how clearly and neatly the composer wrote this extremely complex music. The preface by the expert Valentina Rubcova provides an ideal guide for a journey of discovery through Scriabin's esoteric musical world. / Piano

Piano Sonata no. 10 op. 70-Scriabin's Tenth Sonata was composed at the same time...(+)
Piano Sonata no. 10 op. 70-Scriabin's Tenth Sonata was composed at the same time as the two Sonatas Nos. 8 and 9 in winter 1912/13. It was probably finished at the latest in June 1913. According to Leonid Sabanejev's reminiscences Scriabin had alreadyperformed parts of the sonata to friends in spring 1913 saying that 'he had succeeded in simplifying the harmonies without destroying the Sonata's psychological complexity.' Following the first performance in Moscow a reviewerwrote: 'The Tenth Sonata must be counted amongst Scriabin’s most inspiring works [...] It is as if it were hewn out of a piece of granite: one can neither leave out a stroke nor add one - it is so strict and logical in itsentirety.'

piano reduction for 2 pianos. Par SHCHEDRIN RODION. Shchedrin, son of a composer and music teacher, underwent a thorough musical training in Moscow. His versatility and dazzling competence across a wide variety of musical genres are surely a result of his studies. The composer is also an exceptional pianist and frequently performs his own piano works (concertos, sonatas, 24 preludes and fugues, etc.) on the concert platform.
While employing a variety of modern compositional techniques he has, nevertheless, succeeded in uniting traditional and contemporary forms. His work is suffused with his love for Russian folkmusic, poetry and literature, yet it is not just relevant in his homeland but speaks to a wider audience. His more recent works too, are characterized by this fusion of a deep Slavic sensitivity with outstanding virtuosity./ Répertoire / 2 Pianos

Beethoven wrote 32 sonatas for piano. Volume 1, edited by Stewart Gordon, includes the first 8 sonatas (Op. 2, Nos. 1-3; Op. 7; Op. 10, Nos. 1-3; and Op. 13 [Pathtique]), written between 1795 and 1799. Since these autographs no longer exist, this edition is based on the first editions, published by various Viennese engravers. Dr. Gordon discusses a variety of topics including Beethoven's life; the pianos of his time and their limitations; Beethoven's use of articulation, ornamentation, tempo; and the age-old challenge of attempting to determine the definitive interpretation of Beethoven's music. Valuable performance recommendations, helpful fingering suggestions and ornament realizations are offered in this comprehensive critical body of Beethoven's sonatas. Where performance options are open to interpretation, other editors' conclusions are noted, enabling students and teachers to make informed performance decisions.
