The Clarinet Concerto is the highpoint of Satoshi Yagisawa’s ‘Concerto Series’, which also includes Suite Concertante for Piano and Wind Orchestra, Trumpet Concerto, Trombone Concerto and Saxophone Concertino, as well asConcertino for Solo Percussion and Wind Orchestra. Saxophone Concertino is one of a series of solo concerti by Japanese composer, Satoshi Yagisawa. In this piece, the solo saxophonist's voice does not separate from the concert band, but rather develops musically and gently in combination with it. This work enables the soloist to showcase his ability with variety and grace.

This concertino was written to a commission by Japanese percussionist Kazuko Ogawa as an addition to Satoshi Yagisawa’s concerto series (trumpet, trombone, marimba, saxophone, and clarinet with wind orchestra). The world premiere was performed by Kasukabe Kyoei Junior and Senior High School Wind Orchestra with guest percussionist Kazuko Ogawa, conducted by Jotaro Tsuga, director of the orchestra in 2009. The effective usage of the solo percussion and elegant orchestration has been greatly appreciated since the premiere. Satoshi Yagisawa’s style has been dramatic but in this piece a new XXXX of writing can be found. Grade 5 for the soloist.

Concerto Cappricioso begins with a short fanfare-like opening. It?s three movements then develop with exciting dialogues between the soloist and the main concert band, which both answers and accompanies the soloist, in addition to adding their own new material. The musical game between the solis and accompaniment will captivate and delight your audience every time.

Gemini Concerto was commissioned by and written for Ryukoku University (Japan), André Henry and Shoichiro Hokazono. Set in three movements, the concerto aims to explore the close relationship, as solo instruments, between the trumpet and euphonium, exploiting the many common factors between the two as well as the subtly different characteristics they possess in terms of both lyrical and rhythmic playing. The first movement is a bustling toccata and the second movement is lyrical and improvisatory in nature. A fantastic piece and a great addition to the repertoire! When writing his tuba concerto, Philip Sparke wanted to create a work which explored the many aspects of the instrument’s technical and vocal qualities but without resorting to caricature. The result is a concerto in two joined movements, which can both be programmed individually, that contains both many lyrical lines together with stunning virtuosic passages. An outstanding concerto that tuba players and brass band audiences alike will enjoy and applaud.

PARADE CONCERTO was Lancen's first concerto for symphonic band. He had fallen in love with the marvellous sonorities of a symphonic band and wanted to join the wind players in a concert, so he wrote this concerto and gave it a parade character. PARADE CONCERTO was premiered in 1972 by Pierre NIMAX in Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxemburg), G. WAGNER conducting. That same year the composer performed it for the first time, in Spain with the Banda Primitiva from Lliria, Jan MOLENAAR conducting. He has performed it since in many countries, including France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Luxemburg, Norway and the USA.

Of the early versions of works included in this volume the first versions of the notably popular Consolations cycle and Grand solo de concert (published in 1850) are of particular interest. In the first version of Consolations the third movement was a style hongrois piece whose thematic material was later used by Liszt in his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 1 (published in 1851). The first version of Grand solo de concert shows that the work did not originally include a slow middle section to be recapitulated towards the end as seen in the final version. This is a characteristically Lisztian feature that would reappear a few years later in his Sonata in B minor. A detailed preface inHungarian, English, and German, including new research results, numerous manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes, makes this volume of the New Liszt Edition an important publication of immense scholarly value. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition's contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition with the exception that the critical notes are not included. Of the early versions of works included in Supplementary Volume 10, particular interest is expected in the first versions of the notably popular Consolations cycle and the monumental Grand solo de concert of 1850. In the first version of Consolationsthe third movement was a style hongrois piece whose thematic material Liszt used again later in the first piece of the Hungarian Rhapsodies published in 1851. The first version of the Grand solo de concert shows that the original concept did notinclude the slow “movement” that would be placed in the middle of the work and recapitulated towards the end in the final version - a characteristically Lisztian feature that would reappear a few years later in the Sonata in B flat minor.A detailed preface in Hungarian, English and German, including new research results, numerous manuscript facsimiles and critical notes make this volume of the New Liszt Edition a specially important publication of scholarly value. Simultaneously withthe Complete Edition volume in colth-bound, its paperback for practical purposes is also published, the contents of which, except for the critical notes, is identical with the Complete Edition volume.

Dance of Uzume is a concertino that is based on a Japanese myth: out of anger toward her brother Susanowa, the storm god, the sun goddess Amaterasu hides in a cave. The goddess of joy, Uzume, succeeds in luring the sun goddess out of the cave by dancing wildly. The joy and laughter of the other gods as they watch Uzume arouses Amaterasu's curiosity and with her appearance, the light on earth returns. This fantastic new original work will make a much needed addition to the advanced repertoire for saxophone and concert band. A version for saxophone and piano is also available.
