Reza Vali: 7 Persian Folk Songs: Set No. 7: Vocal and Other Accompaniment: Score

This is the sixteenth set of an ongoing cycle of Persian folk songs the Reza Vali has been composing since 1978. The piece was written for Kian Soltani and consists of seven songs some of which are based on authentic Persian folk melodies and some are composed in the style of a folk song (imaginary folk songs). The DVD features Lily Afshar's soulful interpretation of Koyunbaba Op. 19 with her mini-cadenza in the final movement the seldom-heard Turkish folk tune Kara Toprak Black Earth herarrangements of the well-known Five Popular Persian Ballads Gozaar music by the Iranian composer Reza Vali based on the traditional Persian scale system of Nava using micro-tones and three selections fromCastelnuovo-Tedesco's virtuosic masterpieces 24 Caprichos de Goya OP. 195.Lily shows Goya's etchings and gives commentaries on the relationship between the artistic works and the musical pieces. for Solo Clarinet and 7 Players-This four movement work features the clarinet weaving melodies constructed in both Western equal temperenment and Persian modal systems. Most of the ensemble doubles on one or more instruments including the pianist and strings playing the chimes invarious passages.
