As with the Festival Toccata, published at the same time, the brilliance of Fountain Reverie disguises the fact that one does not need to be a virtuoso to play it well and effectively, and it plays well on many different Organs.Percy Fletcher was an English composer, conductor and Orchestrator of prodigious output who made his career in the lively world of the London music theatre of the years of the late 19th and early 20th century. He was music director at many theatres, including His Majesty's Theatre for the last seventeen years of his life. He was the Orchestrator and conductorfor the big budget spectacular theatre piece Chu Chin Chow which ran for five years, a record that remained unbroken for forty years. In addition to his myriad works of light music, Fletcher also wrote a serious church cantata, The Passion of Christ, as well as the delightful children's work, The Walrus and the Carpenter.

Georg Goltermann (1824-1898) left a plethora of works for his instrument, including seven cello concertos which still play an important role in the cello literature of today. In addition, he composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Rooted entirely in the romantic spirit of their time with regard to style, they are relatively short pieces of medium difficulty. It is not least due to its melodic and harmonic catchiness that the rather easy Reverie in G minor Op. 92/2 enjoys great popularity both in lessons and in concerts. The expression marking 'Allegro appassionato' refers to the fundamental character of the piece which demands, in particular, an expressive vibrato rich in modulation.

En 1836, le compositeur Félicien David édite les « Mélodies orientales ». Elles comptent au total vingt et une pièces dont dix-huit ont été rééditées en 1845 sous le titre « Brises d'Orient » et trois autres sous le titre « Les Minarets ».
A leur sortie, ces mélodies n'obtiennent pas un grand succès. Deux raisons peuvent l'expliquer. D'une part, un incendie détruit une partie des stocks de partitions imprimées. D'autre part, le public, qui avait aimé les « Orientales » du poète Victor Hugo et les « Pestiférés de Jaffa » du peintre Eugène Delacroix, ne semblait pas être attiré par l'orientalisme musical.
Les brises d'Orient possèdent la puissance des charmes orientaux plutôt doux. Le compositeur traduit à merveille l'atmosphère orientale en marquant les rythmes par des basses étonnantes.
Plus que des formes traditionnelles, ce qu'il faut retenir de ces pièces est le fait qu'elles racontent de belles histoires avec toujours une dynamique très réussie de passages lents et de passages vifs et rapides.
L'écriture de Félicien David ne manque pas de couleurs. Cependant il n'essaie pas d'appliquer l'exotisme du Moyen-Orient. Les mélodies chantent naturellement à travers ses pièces.
« Rêverie » révèle beaucoup de surprises. Le compositeur nous entraîne dans un voyage agité où rêverie rime avec intrépidité. Chevauchée mélodique et rythmique interrompues de contre temps, de silences, qui nous amène à découvrir des paysages changeants et très différents dans l'instant musical.

'Six Pieces' Op. 19 is the first collection of piano pieces by Tchaikovsky which contributed significantly to his growing renown as most important Russian composer apart from Anton Rubinstein. Famous contemporary pianists like Nikolai Rubinstein and Hans von Bulow performed Reverie du soir (Op. 19, No. 1) or Theme original et variations (No. 6) in their concerts in the 1870s. Commissioned by his Moscow publisher P. I. Jurgenson, Six Pieces Op. 19 was composed by Tchaikovsky in the summer and autumn of 1873, i.e. during his time as professor of theory at the Moscow Conservatoire.Bulow had entered 'little changes' in his own copy of the first edition of Variations Op. 19/6. There is, however, no documentary proof which of Bulow's changes Tchaikovsky eventually included in the Nouvelle edition revue et corrigee par l'auteur of Op. 19 published only in 1890. The present new edition therefore contains both versions of the Variations. Tchaikovsky's version of the first edition can be found in the appendix of the present volume, Bulow's version expressly adopted by Tchaikovsky is presented together with Nos. 1-5 in the main text of the volume on the basis of the Nouvelle edition revue et corrigee par l'auteur from 1890.
