Scherzo Op.48 is a really lyrical piece for Wind Quintet (Flute Oboe Clarinet Bassoon Horn) which lasts around 2 minutes 30 seconds. The work starts Allegro Vivo with the main theme and some variations of this theme by each instrument then appear to end up on a final Animando. It reminds of music played to hold suspense during movies. This restless piece requires a good mastering of breathing techniques. This book features score and parts. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the GrandPrix de Rome. He composed several operas chamber works and ballets among others.

Its sections present the infernal noise of ghostly voices the chattering and quarrelling of witches the appearance of ghosts the dance of witches and demons the appearance of Satan the adoration and Black Mass and finally the pealing bells of the village church announcing the break of day and thus the end of the witches’ sabbath.Whether intentionally or not Mussorgsky actually finished the work on the eve of St. John’s Day (23 June1867) after spending twelve days on its composition. Technically speaking Joachim Linckelmann’s exciting version for Wind Quintet is the arrangement of an arrangement as Mussorgsky’s symphonic poem is almost invariably heard in the familiar version by Rimsky-Korsakov.

for Flute Oboe Clarinet in Bb Bassoon and Horn in F-Alan Bullard's Dances for Wind Quintet were commissioned by the Marlborough Wind Quintet and first performed by them in the Purcell Room in June 1983. It was subsequently taken up by the Vega Wind Quintet who broadcast it on BBC Radio 3 and since then it has received numerous performances worldwide.
