The collected songs for voice and piano of aclaimed choral conductor and arranger Stephen Wilkinson. This album includes settings of Marvell's poem The Garden, a joyful expression of horticultural delights that cleverly combines an almost atonal idiom with elements of a Gilbert and Sullivan patter song. The title work The Sunlight on the Garden is a setting of the MacNeice poem of the same name, and evokes darker moods of wartime by the use of a constantly evolving harmonic palette. In the field of choral music, Stephen Wilkinson is a genius. (Yorkshire Post) Simply a great choral conductor (South China Times) No praise could overstate the merits of Stephen Wilkinson's direction (The Guardian).

Peter Schindler's full-length secular choral work Sonne, Mond und Sterne (Sun, Moon and Stars) narrates a love story based on old texts which are given a new interpretation through these musical settings. Some individual numbers were published in spring, and now more movements with piano accompaniment are available in print and digitally.- choral work of medium difficulty- will appeal to experienced Brahms Requiem singers as well as ambitious chamber or youth choirs with a gospel, pop or jazz background-cross-over between jazz, chanson, and chamber music Peter Schindler about Gedanken uber die Zeit:Paul Fleming was one of the most important lyric poets in German Baroque literature. He wrote his poem Gedanken uber die Zeit in his early twenties; it was first published in 1634 as an epitaph. All the nuances of the concept of time are artistically contrasted, and the motif Zeit (time) is explored and played with in a dialectical manner. The male voices begin in unison at an andante maestoso tempo, followed by a leisurely progress in homophonic writing in a slightly freer rhythm. A lively middle section follows which leads into the opening motif again in the last section. The third section contains a fugue, and the end is unison once again. And so the words are like a manifesto by the poet.

Fresh from the loss of his oldest daughter Maria Mahler, and knowing he had a serious heart condition, Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) crafted Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) in the years 1908 and 1909. The first performance took place on November 20, 1911 at the Tonhalle in Munich, conducted by Bruno Walter. It encompasses six settings of old Chinese poems, four of them by the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, loosely translated into German by Hans Bethge. Conscious of his own mortality, Mahler filled his orchestral song cycle with themes of resignation, fading beauty, and autumn loneliness. The last song, roughly the same length as the previous five movements combined, serves as a sprawling, yet deeply personal farewell to both love and life. Instrumentation: 3(3rd dPicc)+Picc.3(3rd dEH).2+BCl+Eb.3(3rd dCBsn: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(4-5): 2Hp.Clst.Mand: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Soli T, A (or Bar). Movements: 1.
