Trascrizioni e brani originali-This new Ricordi book is a collection of 25 easy-intermediate transcriptions for piano. It contains new pieces as well as transcriptions of pieces of well-known composers such as J.S. Bach Beethoven Chopin Tchaikovsky Debussy Grieg Joplin Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Mozart and Schumann. Piano Crescendo is also available in two slightly more demanding versions for intermediate and advanced students (NR 14046700/-800).

Late Elementary-Level 2B Piano Solo-Uses white and black keys patterns with crescendos for dramatic effect. Cat Prowl will take your students up and down the keyboard. A student winner!

Mid-Elementary Level-Description: It is in A B A form with a coda. The song has direct dynamic contrasts and also shading (crescendo- decrescendo). It is meant to be played in a 'lively' tempo that the student can master. Purpose: It's an exercise for a legato right hand accompanied by a detached left hand. The student learns to 'roll off' staccato at the ends of slurs gently without 'punching' them. The song also requires the student to count the eighth rests in mm. 18-19 22-23 in order to give 'oomph' to the following accented quarter notes. Suggestions for Instruction: Have the student say Giddy-up giddy-up. The sound of the words gives a feeling for the rhythm of two eighths and aquarter note. The fingering in mm. 19-20 and 23-24 is important in order to execute slurs properly. Try the right hand alone (mm. 4-8 11-12) for shading with the crescendos and decrescendos. Key: C Major

Later Elementary Level-Description: This contains three movements similar to those that might be found in a classical sonatina. The first movement is in ABA' form with a medium tempo. The second movement has a lyrical cantabile melody. The third movement is a fast gigue-like movement. Purpose: The student may learn the variations in sound and mood produced by movements indicative of a classical sonatina. Suggestions for Instruction: 1) Have the student try the right hand first observing correct fingering. Practice tapering 3-note slurs that end with staccato. Practice playing crescendo and decrescendo then add the left hand. 2) Allow the student to play the right-hand melody with appropriateshading and breathing. Introduce legato pedaling. Teach following the line. 3) Point out how the left hand mimics the chords in the right hand hand-over-hand. Have the student practice the 3-note slurs in the right hand for a 'loud-soft-soft' type of sound. Work to make a distinction between f and mf. Have the student pedal with the harmonic changes.
