NORMA is a two-act lyric// tragedy by Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835). A leading example of the bel canto genre, the opera premiered at La Scala in Milan on December 26th, 1831. The story tells of a love triangle between Norma, the High priestess of the druids, her Roman lover, and a younger priestess for whom the Roman has fallen. Domenico Mirco's composition incorporates a theme and variation section into this multi-thematic fantasy based on Vincenzo Bellini's tragedia lirica opera of 1831. The five melodies that Mirco extracts from Norma appear in their original operatic order and are mostly related to the melodies of its main character, Norma. Mirco contributes his own material in transition sections between the Bellini operatic melodies. This challenging arrangement is edited by Diane Barger.

Eight melodies from Vincenzo Bellini's 1831 tragedia lirica opera Norma are used to create this virtuosic fantasy for clarinet and piano. Appearing out of sequence from their original order within the opera, the themes are presented with a high degree of embellishment in Antonio Spadina's operatic fantasy.
