The series For Children (together with Mikrokosmos) belongs undoubtedly to the basic works of piano instuction. It is learned from almost all over the world, its sheet music edition is sold by Boosey & Hawkes and EMB in territorial distribution. The present edition was prepared by the composer's son Peter Bartok living in the United States who used all available manuscripts and other documents which helped clarify the uncertainties concerning the music text. In order to meet this objective, a completely new engraving was made and the editor described the historical background of the emergence and the editions of the work as well as the nature of the corrections. The two volumes based on Hungarian folksongs appear now contracted to one volume with Hungarian and German titles, folksong texts and explanatory notes. Territorial restrictions may apply. Coventry Carol was first performed during the sixteenth century in Coventry, England as a part of the Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors. It was a lament by the mothers of children taken in the Biblical Slaughter of the Innocents. Robert Croo is credited with writing the lyrics in 1534, and the music was written by an unknown composer in 1591. The original manuscript of Robert Croo's poem lasted until a fire destroyed it in 1879. The underlying mixed meter feeling of this arrangement is meant to help the piece build momentum to the third verse to tell the tragic story depicted in the poem. The repeated motif is a descending chromatic scale and can be found throughout all three parts. Teaching a descending chromatic scale from G3 down to D3 will help the basses find their entrances throughout the chorus of the piece. The tenors have the same descending line up an octave in the cued notes starting at m. 49 and can sing in octaves with the basses for practice.  .

With the publication of the first collective, scholarly edition of the a cappella works of Sándor Veress (1907-1992), the publishers were paying a long-standing debt in the Veress centenary year. Volume I contains all the already published works for children s, female and male choirs, together with those of the works of his mature period preserved in manuscript which have attained their definitive form: seven choral cycles or suites, and five single-movement works. The musical concept of the mainly 3- or 4-movement Hungarian folksong suites and cantatas is closely akin to that of the composer s instrumental folksong series written at the same time. Also included in thevolume are a musical setting of Sándor Pet fi s poem Orbán and arrangements of two Swiss folksongs and a children s song of American origin (Mary had a little lamb).

The final instalment of the three volume collection of Zinck’s complete keyboard music contains his sets of variations (one on the tune made popular by Mozart, Lison dormait, and the other a surprisingly virtuoso set on a simple children‘s song) and a sequence of his very individual miscellaneous pieces, including the atmospheric setting for keyboard solo of Das Traumschiff (complete with nautical illustration). Many of his teaching pieces are published here for the first time from a manuscript source in the Royal Library, Copenhagen, and include original fingering from the composer. ...Then Thy Words Will Take Wing... is a four movement composition based upon drawings made by Russian painter Zinovii Tolkatchev (1903-1970), who served as official artist during the liberation of concentration camps in Auschwitz. After the war, Tolkatchev’s works were published and now tour the world as a travelling exhibition. This composition is a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust who still remain nameless, and is a powerful piece to include in any concert programme.

“…dan zullen uw woorden vleugels krijgen...” is een vierdelige compositie gebaseerd op vier tekeningen van de Wit-Russische schilder Zinovii Tolkatchev (1903-1970). Tijdens de bevrijding van de concentratiekampen Auschwitz en Majdanekwas Tolkatchev bij het Rode Leger in dienst als tekenaar. Na de oorlog verschenen de tekening van Tolkatchevs in albumvorm en momenteel reizen ze de wereld over, te bekijken bij tentoonstellingen. De compositie is een eerbetoonaan alle naamloze slachtoffers van de Holocaust en grijpt daarbij ook terug op de hoofdgedachte van de Yad Vashems, het gedenkbeeld van de Holocaust in Jeruzalem.

Für Blasorchester, Violoncello und Kinderchor...dann wachsen Flügel Deinen Worten...“ ist eine viersätzige Komposition nach Zeichnungen des weißrussischen Malers Zinovii Tolkatchev (1903-1970), der bei der Befreiung der Konzentrationslager Auschwitz und Majdanek in der Roten Armee als Zeichner diente. Nach dem Krieg wurden seine Bilder veröffentlicht und wandern jetzt in einer Ausstellung um die Welt. Diese Komposition will an die vielen namenlos gebliebenen Opfern des Holocaust erinnern und damit einen der Leitgedanken Yad Vashems, der Holocaust-Gedenkstätte in Jerusalem, vermitteln.

…Alors tes paroles s’envolent en chanson… est une oeuvre en quatre mouvements s’inspirant de quatre dessins du peintre biélorusse Zinovii Tolkatchev (1903-1970) qui servait dans l’Armée rouge en tant qu’illustrateur lors de la libération des camps de concentration d’Auschwitz et de Majdanek, sa t che consistant réaliser des croquis des atrocités commises. Plus tard, les enfants de Tolkatchev firent don de la série au mémorial Yad Vashem de Jérusalem. Ces dessins sont rassemblés en une exposition qui fait aujourd’hui le tour du monde.

Un brano in quattro movimenti che si ispirano a quattro dipinti del pittore bielorusso Zinovii Tolkachev (1903-1970) che servì nell’Armata Rossa come illustratore durante la liberazione dei campi di concentramento di Auschwitz e Majdanek.
