The “Little Organ Book” perhaps the most celebrated collection ever of chorale preludes owes its title to J.S. Bach’s application for the post of Cantor at St Thomas’ Church in Leipzig. Lacking an academic degree Bach wanted to demonstrate his qualifications as a teacher through his compositions – including his Inventions Sinfonias and the “Well Tempered Klavier”. This also led him to append a misleading title to the most ambitious project of his time at Weimar: he called this collection of chorale preludes - originally meant to number 164 pieces - pieces for an “aspiring organist”. In fact the44 completed compositions of the “Little Organ Book” are demanding masterpieces which give an impressive display of the full range of the so-called short chorale prelude. This new critical edition returns for the first time to the format of the principal sources dating from Bach’s time in that most of the pieces are reproduced on two systems rather than three.

Cantata for soloists choir and orchestra-Lobe den Herrn meine Seele (Praise thou the Lord o my spirit) BWV 143Little is known about the genesis of “Lobe den Herrn meine Seele” (Praise thou the Lord o my spirit BWV 143.A transcription from the 19th century was for a long time considered the only source; the musical text of the “New Bach Edition” was based on this material.  Recently however a copy of the score from 1762 has become available.  It offers a more reliable musical text rendering a complete revision of the cantata necessary.On the basis of this new source the work is presented here as part of the“New Bach Edition – Revised” in what is presumably its original form in C major with three trumpets.  This orchestration is more typical of Bach’s writing than the version for three horns in the surviving B-flat major version. Eight Little Preludes And Fugues BWV 553-560 formerly ascribed to Johann Sebastian Bach. Although it has not been possible to identify the composer of the 'Eight Little Preludes And Fugues' Alfred Dürr writes in his preface to this edition 'Since the value of a musical work is in no way dependent pm whether the composer is known or not the hope remains that the delightful and appealing music of the Eight will find enthusiasts in the future despite the fact that they no longer fulfil their former task namely to introduce 'typically Bachian' elements to the future organists. The Eight definitely have their own value'.

Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena(1725).This hardback facsimile edition bound in green with gold trimmings and bearing the initials ???A.M.B.??? and ???1725??? on the front cover presents one of the greatest albums of household music. It is primarily the personal album of Anna Magdalena Bach (1701-1760) daughter of the court and military trumpeter Johann Caspar Wilcke a trained musician and court singer and second wife to Johann Sebastian Bach. The album contains partitas (two in Bach's own hand probably intended as a tribute to his wife) minuets polonaises marches and short pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach hischildren and a few visitors to the Bach home. The volume also contains little vocal pieces songs and chorales as well as exercises in harmony and thoroughbass realisations.The pieces are arranged chronologically (except for the last section) and several members of the Bach family helped with the copying - only Wilhelm Friedemann's hand is absent.
