Parts Barenreiter
Cantata for the 1st Sunday after Trinity (composed for June 11 1724)-O Ewigkeit...(+)
Cantata for the 1st Sunday after Trinity (composed for June 11 1724)-O Ewigkeit du Donnerwort BWV 20Cantata for the 1st Sunday after Trinity composed for June 11 1724Johann Sebastian Bach opened the second year of his Leipzig church compositions on 11 June 1724 with a performance of the cantata ?O Ewigkeit du Donnerwort?.The work is based on a church hymn by Johann Rist that depicts in riveting language the terrors of the Last Judgment and the torments of Hell followed by an admonition to live a life pleasing to God. The poem inspired Bach to write one of his most impressive church compositions altogether. This remarkably extensive score with twelve sheets sheds particularly instructiveand detailed light on Bach's creative process. The Bach Archive Leipzig acquired this priceless manuscript at the end of 2016 making it possible for the first time to reunite the original performance material and the handwritten score of a Bach chorale cantata. Our facsimile edition complements the edition of BWV 20 presented by James Webster almost 50 years ago in volume I/15 of the ?New Bach Edition?.- Autograph score combined with the original parts- Two facsimile fascicles in four-colour reproduction (24 + 64 pp.) each in a facsimile dustcover and one volume of commentary (German/English 16 pp.) all combined in a slipcase- Series Documenta musicologica II/52- Limited edition of 250 copies- With a Commentary by Peter Wollny (Ger/Engl)

No group of works inJohann Sebastian Bach?s output is as wide-ranging as the cantatas. This is hardly surprising considering that for over five years Bach was required to compose a work or at least re-work an existing one for every Sunday and festival of the church year as well as for numerous secular occasions such as council inaugurations school and university celebrations and royal birthdays.Unfortunately not all cantatas have survived. However over 200 sacred and secular works exist and form a corpus of works suitable for all possible occasions. This rich musical heritage is still as relevant today as it was then.

Cantata for the 4th Sunday of Advent-Bereitet die Wege bereitet die Bahn BWV 132Cantata for the 4th Sunday of Advent. The cantata Bereitet die Wege is one of the few works by Johann Sebastian Bach of which we know fairly well how it came into being. The autograph full score bears the date 1715; Bach therefore composed the piece for the church service given by the Weimar court orchestra (of which he was the concert master) on 22 December the fourth Sunday in Advent in the year 1715. We even know the author of the words: it was the High Ecclesiastical Secretary in Weimar Salomon Franck who wrote the poem especially for thatoccasion and had it printed in his annual cycle of cantata texts entitled Evangelisches Andachtsopfer.- Urtext of the New Bach Edition- Full score & performance material (BA10132) vocal score (BA10132-90) available for sale.
