Intermediate Music for Three, Volume 1, Part 1 - Flute or Oboe or Violin

Conceived for upper-intermediate players and written in 1921 André Lafosse?s Complete method of Slide Trombone ? Volume 3 is the last volume of this series with comments and explanation for Slide Trombone. Including various exercises and studies this complete method will also guide the player with the right positions to adopt and direct him to produce a clean sound on the instrument. Complete method of Slide Trombone has been written in three volumes the two first one in 1921 and the last one in 1946 and the bass Trombone is covered in an appendix of three pages. AndréLafosse (1890-1975) was a Trombonist and a professor at Paris Conservatoire. He also composed a suite for brass quintet called Suite Breve and recorded with Stravinsky.

These three volumes, in practical urtext-pedagogical editions, are designed with the idea that these precious works will be performed on the modern piano. With respect to the original text, Dr. Hinson offers many valuable, stylistically faithful suggestions for interpretation. Volume I is appropriate for progressing intermediate students, and provides a most effective introduction to the great Viennese Classical style.

Harpsichord work - Volume 4 LP.24 by Francois Couperin is the fourth in a series of 4 volumes of suites for Harpsichord. Published in 1930 three years before Couperin’s death when he was very ill this volume initially presented some small mistakes and some white pages. It features seven Ordres from the 20th to the 27th with a total of 43 pieces. For upper-intermediate players this volume was edited by Kenneth Gilbert. François Couperin was a very famous French composer who played the Harpsichord the Organ. Coming from a famous family of musicians he was nicknamed“Couperin le Grand” ('Couperin the Great').

These three volumes together contain 36 Nordic folk songs from Denmark Norway Sweden Finland and theFaroe Islands. The selection is based first and foremost on their being well suited to the instrumental expressivepossibilities of the piano and being good representatives of the rich and atmospheric Nordic musical heritage.When one practises sight-reading on one’s own it is tempting to stop as onegoes along because the desire to playthe correct notes is often given priority at the expense of the rhythm and expression.Music without an organic pulse will leave the player with an unsatisfactory feeling of stress and failure and thestream of thought will not form part of a natural flow. Good sight-reading training is therefore ensemble playing where the teacher supports the pulse and rhythm.In many other publications of four-handed duets the secundo part is written in two bass clefs and the primo part in twotreble clefs. Reading this untrained combination of clefs along with the stressful fact that the music has never beenseen nor heard before can confuse the pupil.In volumes 1 and 2 the secundo part which is intended for the pupil is therefore notated in a treble clef and bassclef as piano music for two hands is usually notated.
