Sonata Op.106. Given its monumental scale and extreme musical and pianistic demands the term ?Grande Sonate? seems almost an understatement. Dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria this sonata is famous not least for the seemingly unplayable autograph metronome marks in the opening movement and final fugue a matter on which the editor offers a new explanation. Nothing is uncomplicated in this pinnacle of the classical-romantic piano sonata composed in ?adversecircumstances? from 1817 to 1819. LKM-Commissioned by the Museum of Mathematics in New York for its grand opening gala benefit the music is based on a Native American story. The violin portrays Coyote and the piano represents everything else especially the stars themselves. It is recommended that the story which is included with the music be told to the audience before the work is performed to enhance the enjoyment and comprehension of the piece.

Full Score-Peng-Peng Gong's Metropolitan Overture was a joint commission of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. The premiere concert on May 22 2016 was both to open the five-year artistic collaboration between the two orchestras and also to welcome the grand opening of the Shanghai Disneyland. The work is a jubilant merge of Shanghai folk-music and Disney-style scores making it an excellent concert opener or encore. Dit stuk werd gecomponeerd in opdracht van het symfonisch blaasorkest Kiskunfélegyhaza uit Hongarije en opgedragen aan dirigent Ferenc Jankovski burgemeester Jozsef Ficsor en Gabriella Kiss. De wereldpremière vond plaats op 31 maart 2001 in Budapest (Hongarije) door het eerdergenoemde orkest onder leiding van de componist.Deze driedelige symfonie beschrijft de geschiedenis van Hongarije. De drie delen zijn geïnspireerd op historische sleutelfiguren oorlogen en andere belangrijke gebeurtenissen in dit land. De symfonie werd geschreven ter gelegenheid van de millenniumviering van Hongarije in 2001.ATTILA koning van de Hunnen vaak ?de gesel Gods? genoemd is decentrale figuur in het eerste deel dat voornamelijk wordt gekenmerkt door angst dreiging agressie en wreedheid. Het tweede deel gaat over ARPAD de stichter van de Hongaarse staat. Het begint met een sfeerpassage die het beeld oproept van zijn grootmoeder Emese dromend over zijn bestemming. Een van Arpad?s tegenstanders de Bulgaarse prins Zalan werd verdreven na een gevecht. Hierna noemde Arpad het gebied officieel ?Magyarorszag?.Het laatste deel is genoemd naar ISTVAN de koning die het christendom in Hongarije introduceerde en die werd gekroond door paus Silvester II op 1 januari 1001. Een vrij plechtige start leidt tot nog een martiale passage die eindigt met een aantal luide slagen. Deze symboliseren het voorval waarbij het lichaam van de heiden Koppany in vier stukken werd gesneden die naar de vier kastelen van het land werden gezonden als schrikwekkend voorbeeld. The grandeur of the mountain is felt by an opening section of octaves in the LH and forte triads played with both hands. The middle section is more idyllic in nature with a reflective and melodic cantabile singing style depiction. The beginning theme returns and is transformed into a sixteenth-note ascending pattern conveying the climax of rising to the top of the mountain!

Written especially for the Red. of the Statue of-Liberty Fanfare follows the successful pattern that John Williams has made his own in a series of ceremonial fanfares. The grandeur and energy that are heard in this exciting short work form a juxtaposition and eventual combination of lively fanfare figures together with a broader theme.
