In his polonaises Chopin takes on the tradition of a genre recently endowed with the function of national dance. Three childhood polonaises constitute a replica of the model of the functional dance, while each of the later works of this genre has its own character: lyric, dramatic or heroic. Tied into the interpretations were subjects such as the struggle for freedom, the knightly and insurgent traditions and sometimes they came to have a symbolic function in Polish history. These works were edited by by I. J. Paderewski, L. Bronarski and J. Turczy ski.

These combine two elements: pure playing and full poetic expression. Virtuosity and romance. Pianistic brilliance, educated in the works in the stile brillant, brought to perfection, but at the same time a farewell. Both are forms of direct expression of the personality of the composer, which showed itself in them for the first time with so much strength and is manifested in a group of characteristics of forming Chopin's individual style. These works were edited by by I. J. Paderewski, L. Bronarski and J. Turczy ski.
