March No. 3 in C minor-Pomp and Circumstance est le titre porté par cinq marches composées entre 1901 et 1930 par le compositeur anglais Sir Edward Elgar. Litany is the first chorus from Edward Elgar’s ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ scored for SATB Voices and Organ or Piano accompaniment in this Novello edition.The Dream of Gerontius Op. 38 is a work for Voices and orchestra in two parts composed by Edward Elgar in 1900 to text from the poem by John Henry Newman. It relates the journey of a pious man's soul from his deathbed to his judgment before God and settling into Purgatory. Litany is sung by the chorus (‘Assistants’) after Gerontius’ deathbed prayer. Elgar disapproved of the use of theterm 'oratorio' for the work though his wishes are not always followed. The piece is widely regarded as Elgar's finest choral work and some consider it his masterpiece.Sir Edward Elgar was an English composer many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the Enigma Variations the Pomp and Circumstance Marches concertos for Violin and Cello and two symphonies. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924.

Pride, pomp, and circumstance of glorious war! It is these words from Shakespeare's Othello that these works by the English composer Sir Edward Elgar fall back on. The work was a sensational success from the very beginning, especially March #1. At its premiere in 1901 under the composer's direction, the audience requested two repeats - in 1902 the words of 'Land of Hope and Glory' were added to the march at the request of Edward VII for his coronation ceremonial. The resulting version is now performed every year at the Last Night of the Proms. When The Spring Comes Round?(original title in French: Quand nos bourgeons se rouvriront) is a song for solo Soprano Voice part of a staged recitation with orchestra ?Une voix dans ledésert? (A Voice in the Desert) written by the English composer?Edward Elgar?in 1915. The words are by the Belgian poet Émile Cammaerts and were translated into English by his wife Tita Brand.?In this Novello edition the orchestra part has been transcribed into a Piano accompaniment.Many of Sir Edward Elgar?s works have entered the British and international classicalconcert repertoire. De la mélodie du trio Elgar devait déclarer qu?elle était de celles dont on n?a l?inspiration « qu?une fois dans sa vie ». Il réutilisera cette mélodie dans son oeuvre chorale Coronation Ode (1902) pour accompagner le texte Land of Hope and Glory d?A.C. Benson. Depuis Land of Hope and Glory est devenu une sorte de second hymne national anglais et fait partie intégrante de la célébrissime Dernière Nuit des Concerts-promenades (the Last Night of the Proms).
