The volume G of the popular Colourstrings violin tutors by Géza Szilvay studies every position of the violin in a separate volume: G1 the second position, G2 the third position, G3 the fourth position, G4 the fifth position and the last one, G5, the high positions (sixth and seventh). These books form an all-embracing, rich collection of shifting exercises, position playing studies, excerpts from the literature, chamber music (mainly duos), and performing pieces, piano accompaniment offered as a separate publication (Books G1, G2 & G2 supplement 9790550116467; Books G3 & G4 9790550116931 and Book G5 9790550116948).The extensive Book G5 - Sixth and Seventh Position (9790550116948) follows the key principles of Colourstrings methodology - the use of natural harmonics and constant developing of inner hearing for instance - but it can be fully utilized also without any previous use or knowledge about the Colourstrings method. The innovative and unique visual presentation of the “house of the positions and preparatory exercises for the challenging passages help the young and older students to fully understand, why and where the different positions are needed. Composer and violinist János Lavotta (1764-1820), as a member of the ''virtuoso trio'' who played a great role in the history of Hungarian music, was one of the pioneers of verbunkos music. (The other two key players being János Bihari and Antal Csermák.) Although Lavotta s Violin Duos Op. 49 must have also been used for playing music at home, they show the composer's clear educational intent since the fourteen consecutive pieces gradually increase in difficulty in both technical and musical respects. The relatively short and undemanding melodies (which can be grasped by beginners), the sequence-like structure that makes practising individual technical elements possible, therhythmical-harmonic accompanying forms, as well as the temperately applied modulations are definitely suitable for beginner violinists to achieve significant progress in playing. According to music historian Mária Domokos, Lavotta's duos could have been included in the syllabus of any contemporary music school at the time. The first publication of Easy Duos - which came out on the 250th anniversary of the Lavotta's birth - was edited by János Dombóvári who provided the fingering and the necessary instructions for performance. Die Erstauflage von EASY DUOS - die anlässlich des 250. Geburtstag von Lavotta erschien - wurde von János Dombóvári mit Fingersätzen und Spiel-Tipps ergänzt. Die 14 relativ kurzen, spielfreundlichen Melodien, die unkomplizierte rhythmisch-harmonischeStruktur und die einfachen Modulationen machen sie zu idealen Übungsstücken für Anfänger, ohne diese jedoch zu unterfordern.

--The Ten Duos for Cellos of Op. 53 are fertile ground for this new arrangement. --Ralph Sauer has chosen five of the pieces (12 minutes of music) that are suitable for two Trombones. --Both parts have an equally wide range (high D to low C) with liberal use of the valve register. However, alternative octaves are provided for those without an F-attachment.--For advanced performers, the Duos present a technical challenge for both players, are musically rewarding and worthy of recital material.
