Concerto in G major (D.82)

The one-movement concerto in D major for the left hand combines powerful monumental sounds with a slender exotic orchestration. Commissioned by the Austrian pianist Paul Wittgenstein whose right arm had to be amputated following a war injury the one-movement piano setting seems amazingly complete all the same. The technical realisation of this piece is a real challenge for the pianist but the work fascinates by its intensity power sensuality exoticism and beauty.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) Flute Concerto in G was written by the composer in 1778. The Concerto remains widely studied and performed on the Flute making it one of the most important Concerti in the instrument's repertoire. Concerto in G is in three movements; 1. Allegro maestoso 2. Adagio ma non troppo and 3. Rondo: Tempo di Menuetto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of D major. A Dutch flautist of the time Ferdinand de Jean commissioned Mozart for four Flute quartets and three Flute concerti. However thecomposer who famously disliked the Flute only completed three quartets and two concertos. Instead of composing a second concerto Mozart rearranged his Oboe Concerto with substantial changes for it to fit with the Flute. This edition of Mozart's Concerto in G includes cadences by virtuosos Taffanel Gaubert and Bozza making for an unmissable version of the famed work.

Présentation Jean-Marie Leclair est le plus éminent représentant de l'école française de violon du XVIIIe siècle. Après plusieurs voyages dans le Piémont où il se forma à l'école italienne de violon, Leclair fit une carrière de soliste et de compositeur, à la ville, notamment au Concert Spirituel où ses concertos ont régulièrement été joués, mais aussi à la Cour en tant que violoniste de la Chambre et de la Chapelle royale. Ses concertos, d'une grande qualité formelle, ont une écriture particulièrement dense et contrapuntique, peu commune en France à cette époque et sans doute rapportée par Leclair de ses nombreux voyages à l'étranger. The Easy Concert Pieces series for alto saxophone and piano provide easy to intermediate pieces from the Renaissance to the modern era for music lessons, concert performances or private music-making. The volumes with accompanying CD add to the not very extensive repertoire of performance pieces for saxophone. They were carefully selected according to technical and musical requirements and are arranged in three volumes according to their level of difficulty. All pieces are included on the accompanying CD as demo and play-along versions (piano accompaniment). The piano part contained in the volume is very easy so that it can even be played by a pupil, e.g. at a music school concert. Volume 1 (ED 22553) contains easy pieces which mainly range from d' to c''', occasionally even to d'''. The keys range from C to D major or the respective minor keys. Following Dittersdorf (HN 759) and Hoffmeister (HN 721), Johann Baptist Vanhal and his sole double-bass concerto add a further highlight to the classical bass literature in our catalogue. The virtuoso work was transmitted only in a copy of a part owned by the famous double-bass player Johannes Sperger (1750-1812) and found in his estate, which raises a few questions on account of the many later additions in the solo part (especially concerning the octave transpositions). In our Urtext edition, Tobias Glöckler proposes a solution to this dilemma with a musical text that is outstandingly well-prepared for the performing artist. The piano reduction is printed in two keys (C and D major), which allows for performances in the solo and orchestral tuning or, at will. Moreover an additional part, written in fingering notation, has been specially designed for use with the 'Viennese tuning' customary in Vanhal's days.
