Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) was better known as
a virtuoso organist than as a composer in his day. His
sacred music, organ and choral works, and other
instrumental music had an enthusiasm and seeming
freedom that concealed immense rigor. Bach's use of
counterpoint was brilliant and innovative, and the
immense complexities of his compositional style --
which often included religious and numerological
symbols that seem to fit perfectly together in a

Reißt euch los, bedrängte Sinnen ("You are torn
loose, afflicted sinners"), BWV 224, is a cantata by
Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in Leipzig in
1724 for an unknown occasion. The author of the text is
unknown and there are only 30 measures of aria for
soprano extant, copied by CPE Bach.
Although originally created as a Soprano Aria, I
created this arrangement for Solo Oboe.
