Johann Sebastian Bach (Eisenach, Turingia, 21 de marzo de
1685 – Leipzig, 28 de julio de 1750) fue un organista y
compositor de música clásica del Barroco, miembro de una de
las familias de músicos más extraordinarias de la historia
(alrededor de 120 músicos).
Su fecunda obra es considerada como la cumbre de la música
barroca, una de las cimas de la música universal y del
pensamiento musical occidental1 , epicentro de la musica
occidental, y uno de los grandes pilares de la cultura universal2 ,
no sólo por su profundidad intelectual, su perfección técnica y
su belleza artística, sino también por la síntesis de los diversos
estilos internacionales de su época y del pasado y su
incomparable extensión. Bach es el último gran maestro del arte
del contrapunto3 ,y su máximo exponente, donde es la fuente
de inspiración para posteriores compositores y músicos desde
Mozart pasando por Schoenberg, hasta nuestros días.
Sus más importantes obras están entre las más destacadas y
trascendentales de la música clásica y de la música universal.
Entre ellas cabe mencionar los Conciertos de Brandeburgo, el
Clave bien temperado, la Misa en si menor, la Pasión según San
Mateo, El arte de la fuga, La ofrenda musical, las Variaciones
Goldberg, la Toccata y fuga en re menor, las Cantatas sacras
80, 140 y 147, el Concierto italiano, la Overtura francesa, las
Suites para violonchello solo, las partitas y sonatas para violin
solo y las suites orquestales
