Juan Alais (1844-1914)

Juan Alais Moncada nació en Buenos Aires en 1844. Empezó a tocar la
guitarra después de la primera audiencia de su hermano Guillermo
jugar. Al regresar de un largo viaje de Juan Guillermo oído jugar mejor
que él, y nunca jugó en la presencia de Juan otra vez. A la edad de 11
Juan empezó a tocar en público y se cree que sin la necesidad de un
maestro. En 1870 "El Inglés Juan" como era conocido, era profesor de
guitarra. Sus primeras obras fueron publicadas por Carlos Schnockel en
la década de 1870, y más tarde por Francisco Nuñez. Juan escribió y
publicó 87 piezas. En 1910 sufrió un derrame cerebral, y fue
paralizada hasta que murió en 1914. Esta edición tiene una nueva
portada, se trata de una foto o Juan c. 1880-1890. Es la foto más
antigua de Juan conoce a mí. Al parecer, en el Segundo N. Contreras
"Disertaciones Musicales", publicado en 1931. Habrá una tercera foto
de Juan incluyo en mi "Anotaciones para la Historia de la Guitarra
Clásica en la Argentina 1822-2000".
