Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Three Piano Concertos

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) Flute Concerto in D is an adaptation of the original Oboe Concerto in C which the composer reworked in 1778. The Concerto remains widely studied and performed on both instruments making it one of the more important Concerti in the woodwind repertoire. Concerto in D is in three movements; 1. Allegro aperto 2. Adagio non troppo and 3. Rondo: Allegretto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of G major. A Dutch flautist of the time Ferdinand de Jean commissioned Mozartfor four Flute quartets and three Flute concerti. However the composer who famously disliked the Flute only completed three quartets and one concerto. Instead of composing a second concerto Mozart rearranged his Oboe Concerto with substantial changes for it to fit with the Flute. De Jean did not approve yet the Concerto in D for Flute remains as popular to this day as the Concerto in C for Oboe.

All three movements contain a cadenza which initially would have been left forthe performer to improvise. However cadenzas have since been written including those of Johannes Donjon (1839-1912). Donjon was a prominent flautist of his time and his understanding of Mozart's Flute Concerto in D is second to none making his cadenzas well-informed and essential to performers of the concerto.

Viennese Sonatas 1781-1788 with fragments and variations-This new publication in two volumes contains all the completed works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for Violin and Piano (BA5761 BA5762). Mozart Requiem (K.626) (Ostrzyga completion) (Full Score) This publication offers a source-critical edition of Mozart’s fragmentary “Requiem” as well as an alternative to the traditional Süssmayr version. It makes it possible to perform 1) the fragment, identified in print in both the score and the parts, 2) the authentic sections left incomplete by Mozart, now in a stylistically appropriate orchestration, and 3) those sections missing entirely in the fragment, newly added in Mozart’s idiom taking into account historical additions by Süssmayr and Eybler. When completing the fragment, the editor drew on comprehensive comparative and analytical studies of Mozart’s church style and compositional workmanship. The influence of Handel and Bach manifested in his final years, particularly in the “Requiem” fragment, is taken into account in those sections requiring completion or fresh composition. At two points readers may choose between alternative movements (or sections), since proceeding from Süssmayr’s historical version, two divergent options cannot be weighed against each other but each one may well reflect Mozart’s intentions: the “Lacrimosa” may end with or without “Amen” fugue, and the “Sanctus” may begin in the customary D major or in D minor. On 30th September 1791 a few months before his death the opera ?Die Zauberflote? (The Magic Flute) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was given its first performance. It was remarkable that despite his ill health and his disastrous financial situation he was able to compose a work of such comic genius. Mozart composed the overture in the two days before the premier of the opera and it is on this overture that this transcription is based. To perform the work ?a la Mozart? only the timpani part should be used the additional percussion parts have been added by the arranger and are therefore optional.Mozart 40th SymphonyThe Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived atragically short life of thirty-five years. Towards the end of his life in the summer of 1788 he wrote three symphonies in the span of a little over six weeks. His Symphony No.40 in G Minor was one of those great works. This setting of the first movement from that Symphony provides ample demonstration of the composer's grace inventiveness and pervasive sense of humour which can be found throughout his music.
