Some of Mozart's most enduring and popular music was composed for relatively minor occasions ' parties weddings and more ' including these multi-movement instrumental pieces. Franz Beyer's new edition of Mozart's complete concert arias had a noticeable gap up to now: there were no arias for the bass voice! Four books had been issued by 2006 the Mozart year: three with soprano arias (EB 8671-73) and one with tenor arias (EB 8778). They were made with the collaboration of two outstanding experts Juliane Banse (soprano) and Christophe Prégardien (tenor) who provided suggestions for the execution of cadenzas 'Eingänge' and embellishments. Now Beyer presents the 'complete edition' for the lowest voice in collaboration with bass singer Robert Holl. The nine surviving bass arias are chiefly works from Mozart's last creative phase in which the composer offered little tidbits to the opera singers he was friends with. Deserving special attention are the arias 'Per questa bella mano' K. 612 (with obbligato double bass) and 'Männer suchen stets zu naschen' K. 433. While editing this aria Beyer completed the orchestral accompaniment that Mozart had only sketched which means that this piece is now available for the first time with an orchestral accompaniment in an authentic Mozartian style.

Vol 1 Ut 50226 + Vol 2 Ut 50227-For more than 200 years Mozart’s piano sonatas have been part of every pianist’s repertoire. Research done over the last few decades has made it possible however to establish more accurate dating and ordering of these works. Expert examination of original documents has shown that many printed editions from the eighteenth Century give more reliable detail than Mozart’s own written scores; many of these works were prepared for publication by the composer himself and marked with precise indications for performance with regard to ornamentation dynamics and articulation. All this together with the rediscovery of documents that only becameaccessible again at the end of the 20th Century gives reason enough to justify the publication of a new Wiener Urtext edition of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas.To follow the second volume published in the spring of 2003 with Sonatas K 330 to K 576 we now present the first volume which contains the Sonatas K 279 to K 311. For Sonata K 284 variation XI in the final movement is given both in the version that appears in the original manuscript and in the version used in the first edition; in order to make the music easier to read both versions are given in normal print size. Music that is clear and well laid out with page turns in convenient places makes this edition extremely user-friendly.Advice on performance by the renowned Mozart specialist Robert D. Levin provides fresh stimulus for what can otherwise too often become a rather tired interpretation.

These Six Viennese Sonatinas were not originally composed by Mozart for the piano. They are a contemporary arrangement of the Wind Divertimentos K 439b which Mozart wrote in 1783. The Divertimentos are notable for their conciseness of form and their melodic richness. They therefore make an excellent introduction to Mozart's piano music even though they are not completely typical of Mozart's piano writing. We do not know for certain who made the arrangement but Alexander Weinmann has shown that it was probably Ferdinand Kauer. The order of movements is not the same as in the original; moreover some of the Trios have been exchanged and recapitulations have been shortenedin some instances. The original voice leading has been replaced by voice leading suitable to the piano. The 2oth_century editions by Rehberg (Schott) Rowley (Peters) and the old edition by Kapral (originally published by Universal Edition) are based on a Ricordi reprint edited by Muggelini in 1907; its musical text is unreliable and there are many arbitrary alterations. The present edition is therefore based on the first edition of the arrangement published by Artaria of Vienna in 1803. By comparing it with the score of the Divertimentos (Mozart Complete Edition Series XXIV No. 62 1905) and with the first edition of the parts it was possible to establish the precise articulation and dynamic markings and to add them where needed. For piano pupils simpler versions are suggested in footnotes as are possible executions of ornaments. Metronome markings have been provided by the editor; like the footnotes they should be taken only as suggestions.
