It contrasts the humble little village of Bethlehem with the glory and greatness of Jesus Christ who was born there. Famously recorded by Judy Garland for Decca Records in 1941 it has been a favourite of the repertoire for over 125 years. William H. Neidlinger (1863-1924) was an organist singing teacher and composer who wrote several pedagogical works. His interest in child psychology led him to abandon music and start a school for disadvantaged children where he put his theories of music education into practice.
