22 International Songs of the Season-The Christmas Choirbook is a collection of up-to-date colorful arrangements of 22 Christmas songs from throughout the world. Among classics dressed in new harmonic sounds you will enjoy jazz and pop intonations as well as gospel renditions of Go Tell It and Joyful. The skandinavien Christmas songs are particularly special: contemplative and musical even droll as in the story about the Christmas troll in the finnish Tomtarnass Julnatt.The Christmas Choirbook offers many stylistic choices for the Christmas and Advent season choir music so let the available CD (ED 9896-50) inspire you in the joyful singing of these pieces. Of course the recordings meant only as a first andhopefully appealing impression represent only a few of the many possible interpretations you will bring to the arrangements.Full verses were intentionally not recorded although we did overlay simple instrumental accompaniments to the a cappella movements. In addition the CD includes pure choire versions as well as some sing-a-longs i.e. instrumental tracks for you to use as half-playback.

And everywhere, singing Christmas carols is part of the celebrations. Some carols, such as Adeste fideles or Stille Nacht are sung throughout the world, but many countries have their own particular carols which reflect their own customs and traditions. These Christmas carols from all over the world feature in the latest instalment of the LIEDERPROJEKT which is published in autumn 2015. The new choral anthology Christmas carols of the world will enrich the Christmas repertoire for choirs, with lots of exciting choral arrangements of a selection of 85 international Christmas carols. It is edited by Volker Hempfling and contains arrangements by composers from 23 countries in their original languages, including John Rutter, John Høybye, Mark Sirett, Wolfram Buchenberg, Matti Hyökki and Fredo Jung. The settings for mixed choir a cappellare extremely varied, ranging from easy to difficult. Some have accompaniment for keyboard instrument. O Rex Gentium sets the Magnificat antiphon for December 22 - one of the great 'O' antiphons traditionally sung at Vespers in the week before Christmas. These texts are all invocations of the coming of Christ each one offering praise to him using titles taken from the prophet Isaiah.This piece was commissioned in 2011 to form part of a complete set of the seven O Antiphons for the Merton College Choirbook. It is conceived in grand and declamatory style owing a respectful debt to the great motets of Bruckner. Formed in A-B-A structure it uses block harmony in the outer sections for impact whilst the central part employssome more reflective and linear writing. A brief coda suggests an atmosphere of wonder and mystery at the prospect of Christ's birth.
