Par BECK BRIAN. The Cherry Tree is a beautiful and lyrical folk song dating back as early as the 15th century in the English Midlands. Having traveled all around western Europe, this folk tune eventually found its way to America, gaining popularity in the South in early 1900s and again in the 1960s. This setting, by composer Brian Beck, captures the beauty and simplicity of the original ballad while encouraging musical expression and smooth phrasing. California Girls - Good Vibrations - Surfer Girl - Wouldn't It Be Nice? - I Get Around-Originally thought of as producing only lightweight “surf” music the Beach Boys went on to become one of the most influential bands of the 1960s with their own distinct and innovative sound. This well-paced medley of tuneful hits includes California Girls Good Vibrations Surfer Girl Wouldn't It Be Nice and I Get Around.

Contemporary harmonies and interesting colors are at the center of this innovative work. While well within the ability of young musicians this piece has an uncharacteristically mature sound that will captivate your audience. After a mesmorizing lyrical opening percussion begins the savage dance that grows more and more powerful as the piece progresses. Optional percussionists throughout the audience can enhance the entire experience as the dancers continue till utter exhaustion and collapse to the ground. Very compelling! (4:10)
