Hilarion Eslava (1807-1878) was a Spanish priest, musician, and pedagogue. Although he was a prolific and well-known composer in his own time, today he is primarily remembered for his 1846 work, Metodo De Solfeo , a successful Solfege Method which has been in constant use all over the world for more than 150 years. Having been a choirboy at Pamplona, the method was published while Eslava was choirmaster at the Royal Chapel in Madrid, and he undoubtedly used it as he was training the choristers there.

In composing Puszta, Jan Van der Roost wrote folk dances related to Slavonic folk music. Its character and sounds are comparable to the Hungarian and Slavonic dances by Brahms and Dvorak and to the Hungarian Rhapsodies by Liszt. All the melodies, however, are newly composed, not adapted from existing dances. The Russian composer Slava Ulanovski, born on 18 November 1951 in Moscow, composed his chamber music piece “At the Western Wall†in 2011 and has dedicated the work to Oleg and Alexander Krimer. This edition comprises the version for violin and piano. Ulanovski also composed a version for oboe and piano in 2011, this version will be soon available as part of the edition series “exempla nova.â€.
