L Américain Richard Charles Rodgers (1902-1979) fur l un des plus éminents compositeurs de comédies musicales. Il noua une fructueuse première collaboration avec le parolier Lorenz Hart avec qui il composa de nombreuses comédies musicales et chansons à succès. Lorenz Hart mourut en 1943 et Richard Rodgers s associa alors avec Oscar Hammerstein. Au cours de sa carrière Richard Rodgers a écrit des centaines de chansons et pas moins de quarante comédies musicales à l affiche à Broadway.
