Composed towards the end of his life, the two sonatas from which the E maj. sonata was extracted were dedicated to Gustav III king of Sweden. A brilliant musical offering to a respected musical patron, and though often dubbed the Swedish Mozart, the style recalls the great keyboard sonatas of C. P. E. Bach. The E maj. Sonata is a work of extraordinary length and brilliance and is a fine example of the composer in his prime.
