Der aus Lothringen stammende Flotist Niccolo Dothel (1721-1810) zahlte nach seiner Ubersiedlung nach Florenz zusammen mit Nardini zum Kern der dortigen Hofkapelle. Dothel hat zahlreiche Kompositionen fur die Flote hinterlassen. Sein langes Wirken in Florenz durfte den Boden einer 'Schule' bereitet haben, die Spielweisen eher franzosischer Tradition (wie Musik fur mehrere Floten von Boismortier oder Corrette) und stilistische Elemente besonders der italienischen Violinmusik vereinte (man denke an die Nahe zu Nardini bzw. Tartini). Ein gutes Beispiel dafur ist dieses Floten-Trio.
