A former choirboy in the Regensburg “Domspatzen” and presently Director of Music at Frankfurt University, Ridil was associated for many years with the famous Bad Tölz boys' choir. After founding the Augsburg Vocal Ensemble in 1976 he presented a broad range of choral music in concerts, recordings and broadcasts in which he focused especially on contemporary music, including that of his teacher Günter Bialas. These Passion motets are a strikingly successful effort to revitalize historical words, tunes and musical forms with modern compositíonal devices.
