Marin Marais: Cinq Danses Français Anciennes (Five Old French Dances)

V.Le Basque

The famous one minute encore piece used by horn virtuoso Dennis Brain, who called it “a little French dance, which also happens to be the shortest piece I know.”

Arranged horn quartet.
Horn 1 has all the fun

Marin Marais (1656 – 1728) was a French composer and viol player at the royal court of Versailles. His most famous works are his five books of Pièces de Viole, from which these pieces are taken.

The Five Old French Dances were first presented as a single edition in the early twentieth century, arranged for viola and piano by Maud E Aldis and Louis T Rowe.

The pieces in the set are L'Agréable, La Provençale, La Musette, La Matelotte, and Le Basque.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
