mvt. iv of Missa Brevis
Lamb of God, you who take away our sins, have mercy on us
This supplication begins unconventionally with close and dissonant chords. There is a feeling of trepidation from the petitioner as the final chord of the introduction is sung. A sincere melody then begins in the bass voice (peccata tollis, qui tollis) and is accompanied by sopranos and altos softly continuing the petition (Agnus Dei) with consonant chords. All voices join together in the appeal and then crescendo into a glorious divisi section (Agnus Dei, Miserere). The prayer ends in beautiful consonance offering reassurance to the supplicant.
