The opera begins with the ballad of "Mack the Knife", which introduces the audience to the many terrible crimes committed by the central character, Macheath (Mack), a notorious criminal in Victorian London.
The song has long been a popular standard and has been recorded by many artists, including (among many, many others) Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,
Weill’s music is arranged here for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, horn in F & bassoon) by Lisa Portus of www.portuspress.com. In addition to the ballad itself Lisa’s arrangement also features optional sections of Weill’s wind band suite.
