Soon May the Wellerman Come, also known as Wellerman is a well-known whaling song. The song frequently refers to the "wellermen", supply ships owned by the British Weller brothers who emigrated to New Zealand. The song was probably written in New Zealand around 1860–1870. The lyrics describe a whaling ship called the Billy o' Tea and its hunt for a right whale. The ship's crew hope for a "wellerman" to arrive and bring them supplies of luxuries, with the chorus stating, soon may the wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. This arrangement is playable by SSAB or SSSB Clarinet Quartet. This chantey has become quite popular recently and is suitable for a variety of performance settings and concert programs. Duration is 2:46. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.
