Chiyou is the war deity in Chinese mythology.  He marches to war, into a battle that threatens his very existence each time he strikes down an opponent.  For he is not just a name in legend, but a honorable king as well.

The composition Chiyou is based off of that march, staring with a basic drum march using the snare and bass drums.  The parts often do many areas of call and response, with differences in tones in accents.   The first half of the piece is mostly written out- and players should play what has been written, however, the second half is mostly a trade-off of solos between the two players, which are completely improvised. .

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
