NoteNamers are flashcards designed to help piano students easily memorize both note names and each note’s specific placement on the piano using humorous/memorable associations with animals. This collection of NoteNamers contains twenty-four (24) double-sided flashcards reinforcing the piano notes ranging from F2 through G5.

The idea for NoteNamers began after watching the TEDx Talk titled "How to Become a Memory Master". In this video, Idriz Zogaj demonstrated how using a "fun, vivid, and animated story" helps our brain make a strong connection, and thus a lasting memory. NoteNamers was developed to empower my piano students who struggle with note memorization and note placement on the piano. I have found these flashcards, with their cartoon characters, make it easier for me to create silly stories that captivate my students attention and reinforce the music note placement and name.

Also, I tried my best to use animals/objects that logically progress in height to help piano students who confuse right/left and up/down on the piano. For example, C3 is a Cave, C4 is a Cat, and C5 is a Cloud. Lower pitches are represented by animals/objects in the ocean, notes around Middle C are represented by animals/objects around ground level, and the higher pitches represented by animals/objects in the air or that fly. I have found this feature very helpful with young students learning new notes and students with dyslexia.

PDF file includes: 24 NoteNamers Flashcards, 1 NoteNamers Flashcard Key, and 1 NoteNamers Keyboard Guide.
Materials Needed: B&W (or color) printer and 6 pages of cardstock paper.
