Sing to the Lord was commissioned by the First Universalist Church of Middleport, NY to be premiered by the Middleport Community Choir at the annual community Ecumenical Thanksgiving service on November 22, 2009. The piece was commissioned in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Middleport Community Choir and in memory of past friends and family. The text of the piece was inspired by the 95 year old grandfather of lyricist Karen Jones, who once said that he believed that he was put on this earth for a purpose. He believed that this is why God had chosen to allow him to live such a long life. This belief has been reflected throughout his life and have touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.The images painted throughout are inspired by scenes from an area landmark, Swallow Hollow. Swallow Hollow is a gorgeous trail located on the Iroquois Wildlife Refuge in New York State that offers visitors wonderful scenes of nature and wildlife.
