This unit easily plugs into the transmitter that is already in our classrooms. That gives me the protection of having my own headset, which seems essential when virus transmission is a strong concern. But this is also critical because each unit has to be connected to the classroom sound system and channels have to be carefully selected in order to avoid interference both within each classroom, but also from classroom to classroom. Trying to bring in your own transmitter would be highly impractical, so having an easily plugged in headset is a great compromise.
The sturdy construction is also very important when wearing a mask. I have noticed when observing colleagues who are using the ultra-thin models that are also very popular that the light nature of those produces a rubbing sound with the mask that can produce a very annoying noise. This model on the other hand can be set right against the mask and will stay there, especially because of the larger foam cover. This creates a very stable sound and no rubbing noises.
The cost of that of course is a heavier unit, which I do not find to be a problem.
