Good entry level mic for the starting streamer
A good mic for the beginner... Easy to hook up with the included XLR to 3.5mm cable... Would recommend who wants that professional studio feel on the cheap... I used this with a Behringer Q802USB Mixer XLR to XLR and workerd flawlessly... Gave it to my son when I bought my Elgato Wave 1 and he loves it, connected to 3.5mm on his PC...

There are several different variations on the microphone sold by Neewer, but from everything I've seen they contain the same internals as the one I got here. The guts include a circuit board and what looks like a 5V electret condenser, which is a very small type of mass-produced microphone capsule used in smartphones and headsets. While they sound better than they use to in the 90's, electret microphones still aren't normally that great.
This brings me to my first critique-- this microphone is designed to LOOK like a studio condenser microphone, but it isn't comparable. It LOOKS like there is a 1-inch capacitor-based diaphragm inside it, but when you open it up, it's just a piece of plastic designed to look like one. The reality is, despite how expensive this microphone looks and feels in person, it is not much different than a typical $5 PC microphone; it's just also needlessly big, complicated, and fancy looking.
Well, let me correct myself actually -- there is a bit more to this microphone than a 15-cent microphone capsule. This microphone can use between 4V and 48V phantom power, thanks to the circuit board inside, and that is awesome. The reason is, normally if you try to connect an electret microphone to a studio-grade sound mixer, you will burn out the microphone -- the microphone isn't designed to handle the 48V provided by the mixer. This however is. That said, you can still also connect this mic to a PC's sound card if on a budget, although to do so you will either need a 5V sound card (not all are), a phantom power supply to provide proper power (costly), or be prepared to modify the internals of the mic a bit.
Sadly, another downside of this microphone is that it needs at least 4V of power, and many PC sound cards only provide 3V. If Neewer didn't bother with the 48V support feature, this mic would probably work at voltages down to 2.5V. I bought this microphone with the intent to heavily modify it, knowing full-well what I was getting myself into first -- so none of that matters to me tho. The shockmount, windscreen, and XLR cable all seem quite usable too -- those parts alone make this purchase worth it.
My last critique though is that this is a side-address microphone, meaning you need to speak into from the side in one particular location, which also happens to be unmarked. The microphone really does feel and look a lot like a proper studio-grade microphone though, and side-address is pretty normal for studio-grade microphones. It isn't hard to modify this microphone though so it isn't side-address only though.
Overall, I'd say this microphone is a bit of a toy: perhaps usable as a showpiece or as a starter kit for a young kid. If you want okay sounding audio for cheap, you might as well just use an iPhone or a webcam. The audio is quite comparable to an iPhone, assuming your sound card can provide 5V or more of power. After you consider the cost of a stand, phantom power, and/or a decent sound card, you are spending as much as what it would cost to get a "real" USB-based condenser microphone that sounds quite a bit better and isn't faking anything.
While I had fun with this microphone, I'll be mostly using it for parts. To most people, it might seem like great value, but I'd argue you would be better off saving up for something else.

The quality of the material is so good and seems like professional microphones. However, I expected a higher quality of my recordings comparing to the inbuilt microphones of my iPhone and MacBook Pro, but no difference! So I use it for fun only.

This microphone is really good and the quality sounds great. The one thing that people need to remember is that this microphone requires phantom power!! If you use this without phantom power it will produce little to no sound at all. Please make sure to get phantom power with this microphone.

This is the ***worst*** mic I have ever had in my hands. The quality on everything is sub-standard and it's inaccurately represented. OK, it was $30CDN but you can buy a fantastic, high quality Behringer XM8500 for the same price. Let's break it down:
- The enclosed literature and specification sheet is messed up. Says it's a supercardiod mic and omni directional at the same time! what? The frequency graph is false too. Mic has a super 'tinny' upper mid range sound and bizarre pick-up pattern unlike anything I've ever used before. It's a rudderless ship or rude tone!
- The cable is not a real 2 conductor shielded microphone cable even though it says it is. In fact it's a noisy, un shielded coaxial cable with an XLR female on one end and a 1/8 " stereo jack on the other. Shorting pins 2 or 3 on a real XLR mic cable is not healthy for your mic and potentially your +48VDC Phantom supply. This is exactly what they did.
- Neewer uses a foam filter inside the grill cover so you can't see the 10mm pickup element (whatever it is) and provides you with another foam cover to place over the grill DDdrrrr...they should have provided a bag so you can toss all this junk in the garbage. Shameful , terrible product. The best part about this purchase is the return slip I just printed.

Reading some of the other reviews for this mic makes me wonder if anyone does ANY research at all before adding to cart. It's a condenser mic ,therefore requires phantom power, if you don't know what phantom power is, move along and buy a dynamic mic. This is not a $30 mic for professional singers in the studio ok? It's for basic vlogging and podcasting and it performs beautifully for that purpose. There's a few mentions here and there about it not fitting a 5/8 standard mic stand thread...REMOVE the 3/8 adapter that comes threaded into the mount and voila it fits any standard mic stand.

After having used higher quality microphones for recording videos at work, when I decided to start recording at home I wanted something to start off with. This microphone records and you can hear yourself somewhat clearly but it was hard for me to think it sounded good when I know it really doesn't. I even compared it to voice memos from my phone and it wasn't as good as my phone. I had to return it and purchase a higher quality one.

It's a solid mic, but nothing special. It sounds perfectly fine, I have no complaints after a couple of years of using it. The metal body is nice, but the capsule isn't shock mounted inside of it, so if you don't put the mic in a shock mount, you will get some considerable handling noise.

These are awesome but you will need an interface/mixer
Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2023Verified Purchase
I bought one of these about 7 years ago, and I've left it powered on via the 48-volt phantom power supply in my mixer for that entire time, and it's still going strong! It's not the same brand, but all of these BM-800s are pretty much the same thing, I think. There are only a maximum of 2-3 factories that actually make them.
My old mic was fine; I was looking for a new foam cover for it and saw a few of them that were four for $6, etc., but yeah, for not much more, I just bought a whole new mic, and it came with an awesomely redesigned shock mount! I'm not really a huge fan of the gold plating on this one, but covered in black and looking at my picture, it looks really professional; it looks awesome. That was the only problem with my old one; my old one just wasn't in very good cosmetic condition anymore.
Now, the quality. Some people might occasionally get a bad one. If you get a bad one, just send it back to Amazon and swap it for another. The same, if it works, it's going to work forever, and if it sounds good, it's going to sound awesome! But, you do need some kind of interface. Now, there are a few of these that I've seen that are about $30 or $40 with an interface. I'm not sure of the quality of those interfaces, but I have a Behringer interface that cost me about $70 a long time ago, and it makes it sound like a million dollars! Please look on YouTube and find reviews from people who have great speaking and singing voices that can really wring the neck of these mics! This mic is not going to hold you back! If you are coming from any kind of cheap microphone, and by cheap I mean up to a $70 microphone, then this microphone will blow you away!

I ordered this Neewer branded condensor mic just two days ago, received a notification that it had been despatched yesterday and received today! I have managed to test the audio quality of the microphone and it is surprisingly good for the price. My voice is clear and ‘warm’ and I couldn’t detect any background noise as yet. Overall the product quality is very good, and it is nicely presented. Simple to use which I love too!
