Plays just beautifully.
Most already know a lot of the following stuff, but music analysis is fun, so I'll ramble on, anyway.
Playing is the most fun.
C 2, 27: 130.8128cps to C 6, 75: 2093.005cps 4 octaves, 2^0 through 2^4 16X frequency differential -- 12 TET X 4 octaves = 48 notes. With slide pushed to left, and draw-in, breathe-in, D Natural 2349.318cps is achievable -- adds two more notes for total of 50 -- 50! 3.0414093202 X 10^64 possible combinations in two quant sequence has more than 60 zeros -- greater than [trillion = 12 zeros] X [5].
This Swan Harmonica, like other 16 Hole Chromatic Harmonicas, plays a 4 octave range, from one octave below middle C to three octaves above middle C.
"Top" note on piano is C 7, 87 4186.009cps, one octave above the range of this Swan Harmonica, like other 16 Hole Chromatics.
C major Diatonic scale is played in regular position slide bar right.
Db or C#, depending upon tuning time sequence, is played with slide bar pushed left.
Any combination of 12TET is possible in all 12 keys, any scale, chord type -- major, minor, diminished, augmented, and more -- in a 4 octave + 2 Note range. Higher pitches above G 5, 69 1567.982 are a little sketchy -- but regulate angle and air pressure, and ambient temperature humidity conditions for more accurate, fuller notes.
Start with Stevie Wonder's harmonica introduction on YouTube to 'That's What Friends Are For' in the Key of Eb major -- draw 7 hole slide right is optional 'A Natural' grace note, push slide bar left, keep drawing.
Release bar to right, move to 9 hole and draw D Natural, keep draw, then push slide bar to left for Eb while continuing breath draw. [Draw = breathe in].
Notes are [A Natural], Bb, D natural, Eb; [se] sol, ti, do.
Harmonica is an intuitive instrument; much of music is -- can teach self without lessons.
Very happy with this fine Swan Harmonica.
Love music forever!!!
I did two things I regret after I bought it. First, I put 3-in-1 oil on the slide. That was a mistake; the oil immediately dampened the high notes near where I put the oil. I fixed it by running hot water from the tap on the high notes through the blow holes -- made it as good as new. The second mistake I made was to try and dry it out with a can of compressed air, the kind sold to blow dust off computer keys and clean computer innards. I put the little tube up inside the harmonica and squirted a little air, only to find that the air stream was so powerful it blew loose four or five little red plastic strips, the ones covering the individual reeds. However, I found no difference in the sound. Never again will I try and dry my harmonicas with compressed air!
One last thing -- I went out and bought a pair of soft cotton gloves for $1.00 at Dollar Tree. That way, when I am wiping my harmonica clean, it leaves no prints. You have to rub a little hard with a dry washcloth to get all the oil off from your hands, and I do that with the cotton gloves on. The chrome just gleams after this treatment and it shines like a diamond.
All in all, this is a great harmonica, especially for people like me with big hands. If you can master holding it, you are limited only by your ability to play. By the way, I don't bend notes -- can't comment about using it for blues or bent notes because I don't care about that.
This thing is just kind of messy. Sticky, loud slide, noisy wind savers, several notes quite out of tune, high notes are a bear to play. This is gonna be a lot of more complicated work to get to a point that I'm plain happy with it, and it's not stuff I'm totally comfortable fixing. People always talk about cheap harmonicas being toys- I usually don't think that's true, but this is that harmonica.
Just not very good. Not much fun to play. I wish I'd just spent more on a better model.
Pros - the low notes have great tone individually. Instrument looks pretty good. Metal parts fit well.
