This intense chamber work is filled with his characteristic harmonies which give the melody and harmony it's ambiguous, continually searching quality. The work is constructed through the gradual accretion of instruments, harmonic richness and ever increasing height and depth in texture.

This work is dedicated to Her Majesty The Queen, in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee. It received its premiere in June 2012 bythe RLPO in Liverpool conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
In addition to the Orchestra, the symphony calls for a virtuoso Brass Quintet.
