Till Sailer tells twelve vivid stories of the childhood and youth of the composer Georg Friedrich Handel in Halle, his trials at the Hamburg Opera, his first successes in Italy and his 'second life' in England. In London where Handel had the most prolific time of his life he wrote such masterpieces as 'Water Music' and the oratorio 'Messiah' with the famous Hallelujah chorus. Accurate in historical details, sensitive and always with a touch of humour, this book lets the reader gain an insight into the peculiarities of Handel's personality and the characteristic features of his epoch.

Handel’s Concerto in F major (HWV 331) was long considered a variant of two movements from the three suites of his “Water Music” (HWV 348-350). Recently our understanding of the “Water Music” had to be thoroughly revised owing to new scholarly discoveries. Not only did the structure of the three suites prove to be unhistorical, but Friedrich Chrysander’s 19th-century view turned out to be correct: the two “variants” actually constitute an independent concerto. In musical terms, HWV 331 is related to two movements of the “Water Music” and is frequently performed alongside them. Now it is available for the first time in a performing edition based on the already revised volume of the “Halle Handel Edition”, which reflects the current state of scholarship concerning the complex source tradition of the “Water Music” and the Concerto HWV 331.

ISBN 9790080143759. 9.0x12.0x0.334 inches. Friedrich Georg Handel; Andras Soos.
Andras Soos, who arranged and edited this volume, has selected from the composer's popular harpsichord suites, concerti grossi, operas and his Water Music movements and arias that are relatively simple both technically and in terms of musical expression, and suitable for performance by a junior orchestra. Thus from quite an early age, by interpreting the most demanding musical material students can become familiar with the language of the Baroque style and its mode of performance. The selection includes not only the well known Hornpipe and also a minuet from the Water Music, but also the famous aria from Rinaldo beginning 'Lascia ch'io pianga|'. (Any teacher or student who is interested can find the source of each piece in the list of contents.).
