Benjamin M. Culli contributes three delightful hymn preludes to the piano repertoire. ROCKINGHAM OLD is arranged in the style of Erik Satie's delicate Gymnopédies; LOVE UNKNOWN gently places eighth notes against triplets; and the highlight of the set is FAITHFULNESS, which features lush, rich, subtly jazzy harmonic language.

The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie. The name referrers to an ancient Greek festival and dance. This piece has a haunting quality to its very familiar melody while its harmonies are atmospheric and ethereal. The setting would easily stand on its own but would also lend itself well to choreography for modern dance or ballet to enhance the performance and involve additional performers on stage at your concert. The flowing lines and beautiful textures make Festival Dance a must for your concert band repertoire. (3:00).

Published initially for band, the style of the accompaniment of this tender and richly scored setting of a Christmas favorite is based on the familiar Gymnopedie No. 1 by Eric Satie. It will add great distinction to seasonal programs that involve both the band and the chorus, though the choral and band versions can also be performed independently. The choral octavo comes in three versions – SATB, SAB and SSA.
